George Pearson, chairman of the Will County Republicans, dreams of a time when Illinoisans no longer flee the state to escape an economy battered by rampant public corruption and highest-in-the-nation tax rates.
The state’s most immediate chance at a turnaround, he tells the Will County Gazette, is a Trump victory in November. That’s why he has placed the full support of the county’s GOP organization behind a pro-Trump rally planned for Homer Glen this Saturday, March 7. The rally is sponsored by Freedom Movement USA, co-founded by Will County Board Member Steve Balich (R-Homer Glen) as a grass-roots response to Trump’s impeachment vote by the U.S. House in December.
“I would love for President Trump to take notice of the rally and see that Illinois is not a lost cause,” Pearson said. “The president has a lot of supporters here trying to remake the state along the lines of Wisconsin and Michigan, which help put him over the top in the last election.”
Pearson added that he is witnessing momentum gathering for the president. This year’s Will County Lincoln Day Dinner held on February 20 raised twice what it did last year.
Pro-Trump rallies hosted by the Freedom Movement are gathering steam all over Illinois and the Midwest. The most recent were held in Bolingbrook and Joliet. In Joliet, Trump supporters were threatened with violence. The group’s goal is 55 pro-Trump rallies in 90 days.
The rallies had their beginnings in one sponsored by the Will County GOP back in December in Frankfort. Pearson said over 700 people turned out the day after pro-impeachment supporters held a rally where “100 or so” appeared.
In addition to Balich, other Freedom Movement USA founders were Brandon Harris, a Chicago-based political activist, and Cornel Dardin, Jr.
The Homer Glenn rally begins at 10:00 a.m. at 143rd and Bell and ends at noon.
