Charges against a man police officers shot during a struggle on Feb. 28 at a CTA Red Line will be dropped, according to reports citing statements from the prosecutor and law enforcement.
Chicago Police Department Superintendent Charlie Beck reportedly asked the Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx to not press forward with resisting arrest and narcotics charges levied against Ariel Roman, ABC News reported on March 1.
Police were attempting to detain Roman on Feb. 28 inside the Grand Red Line station, when police reportedly shot him twice. Roman was in critical condition as of Feb. 29, ABC News reported.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported the incident started when police saw Roman walking between train cars and attempted to stop him.
In a statement to ABC News, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said, “Given the totality of circumstances and the department’s significant level of concern around this incident, it would be insensitive to advocate for these charges.”
The incident between Roman and police officers was captured on video by Michael McDunnah, who posted it to Twitter.
In an interview with ABC station WLS, he alleged he heard an officer yell to shoot Roman.
