An Orland Park restaurateur takes issue with the governor’s plan to reopen eateries.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker's Restore Illinois says the earliest restaurants, including Bryan Sord’s 94 West at 15410 W. 94th Ave., could reinstate dine-in service is June 26. Sord and many others in Orland Park believe businesses will suffer from the longer wait.

“It's going to put so many people out of business,” Sord told Patch. "I think this (the economic impact) will be worse than the pandemic itself."

According to Sord, chain stores will weather the economic fallout brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic while small businesses such as his will not be so lucky.

Sord’s restaurant is buoyed by delivery and carryout, but he said he missed the windfall associated with two of its busiest dine-in days of the year, which have already passed.

“They took away Easter, and then Mother's Day,” he told Patch. “And Mother's Day is our biggest day of the year.”
