Village of South Chicago Heights Board of Trustees met April 20.

In recognition of the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis, the Village is making every effort to ensure the health, safety and welfare of its residents. To avoid the transmittance of the COVID-19 virus, residents of the Village are invited to attend this meeting telephonically.
Specifically, residents are encouraged to call into the following teleconference line (712) 775 7031 in order to listen to the live meeting. After dialing the teleconference line, you will be prompted to enter the following conference ID: 245-795. After you have entered this conference ID, you will be able to listen to the meeting.
Additionally, residents are encouraged to email their questions and public comments to clinan@southchicagoheights.com prior to and during the meeting. The emails will be read during the public comment portion of the meeting.
A Regular Board of Trustee meeting was held at the Village Hall, 3317 Chicago Road, South Chicago Heights, Illinois. Mayor Terry Matthews called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES: Trustee Stanton motioned to approve the Regular Board of Trustee meeting minutes of March 16, 2020 with 2 corrections on page 2, seconded by Trustee Bosco. There being no further discussion, the roll call vote being: Ayes: Eugene Fazzini, Terry Fiorenzo, Eric Stanton, Sally Marrufo, Tracy Bosco, & John Ross. Nays: None. Abstain: None. Absent: None. Motion carried 6 to 0.
APPROVAL OF SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES: Trustee Fiorenzo motioned to approve the Special meeting minutes of March 9, 2020 with one correction at bottom of page, seconded by Trustee Ross. There being no further discussion, the roll call vote being: Ayes: Eugene Fazzini, Terry Fiorenzo, Eric Stanton, Sally Marrufo, Tracy Bosco, & John Ross. Nays: None. Abstain: None. Absent: None. TRUSTEE/COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Treasurer Dolasinski stated the GWA has started the 2019 fiscal year audit and that everything has been submitted electronically with no problems.
Fire Chief Vlietstra summarized and updated the Village Board on the Covid-19 pandemic and the reported cases in the Village. Chief Vlietstra updated the board on multiple grants that his department has received in connection to the current crisis. Chief Vlietstra stated that the public Safety building has been sanitized free of charge from Chicago Fire and Water Restoration and gave a special thanks to them.
Police Chief Joyce stated that Distractive Driving Enforcement grant will start on Tuesday, April 21st and that officers will be looking for distractive drivers on cell phones.
Chief Joyce stated that since March 20th there have been 494 calls for police service. Officers have recovered 4 guns, 2 domestic battery arrest, 11 retail theft arrests, and 2 DUI's. Chief Joyce stated that his department has joined the Fire Department with children's Birthday parades and that it has been good for the department during this time.
Public Works Director Martin stated that his department had 6 water main breaks repaired and 2 B-Box repairs and that this was a decrease since the same time last year. Mayor Matthews asked if it was because they lowered the PSI in the water towers. Director Martin believes that it helps a great deal.

RESOLUTION 2020-R-10: A RESOLUTION APPROVING A CLASS 8 TAX ASSESSMENT CLASSIFICATION FOR AN ADDITION TO AN INDUSTRIAL BUILDING LOCATED AT 25 E. 34TH STREET, IN THE VILLAGE OF SOUTH CHICAGO HEIGHTS, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: Mayor Matthews presented the resolution. Trustee Ross motioned to approve the resolution seconded, by Trustee Stanton. There being no further discussion, the roll call vote being: Ayes: Eugene Fazzini, Terry Fiorenzo, Eric Stanton, Sally Marrufo, Tracy Bosco & John Ross. Nays: None. Abstain: None. Absent: None. APPROVAL - COST OF LIVING INCREASE FOR NON-UNION EMPLOYEES; Mayor Matthews explained that this was in the 2020 budget and that the increase amount is 2.5% effective January 1st Trustee Fazzini motioned to approve the increase seconded, by Trustee Stanton. There being no further discussion, the roll call vote being: Ayes: Eugene Fazzini, Terry Fiorenzo, Eric Stanton, Sally Marrufo, Tracy Bosco & John Ross. Nays: None. Abstain: None. Absent: None. MAYOR'S REPORT: Mayor Matthews thanked all departments for all their help during this pandemic time and thanked the office staff working at home. Mayor Matthews read a thank you note from the Kilborn Family for the flowers and read a thank you note from Jimmy Pasqualini for changing the garbage company to Flood Brothers. Mayor Matthews updated the Board on the recent phone conference with Flood Brothers and the services going forwarded should be resolved.
