The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Blue Island was called to order by Mayor Vargas at 8:05 p.m.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS

Motion by Ald. Bilotto, second by Ald. Zylman to approve the Regular City Council Minutes from July 28, 2020.

PUBLIC COMMENT

Marsha Lee is still having problems with loud noise from her next door neighbor and asked for the Ordinance relating to noise.

Dave Helsley had several concerns about the actions of the City Council Committees. He also asked about the Chevy Tahoes and asked that we all pick up our own trash throughout the City.

Carol Dipace-Greene stated that the COVID pandemic is not going away and asked that everyone wear face covering. She also announced that there will be a Face Mask, Hand Sanitizer & Food giveaway at Eisenhower High School on Saturday, August 15, 2020 from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM,

Ray Thomas asked that there be a meeting with the Mayor, Municipal Services and himself to discuss Resident Only Parking around The Vault and Ravens.

MAYOR:

Mayor Vargas asked for a motion to approve the Appointment of Jeannette Hoyt to the Civil Service Commission. Term Expires 2021

Motion to approve a request from the K9s for Veterans to solicit funds on Saturday, August 15h and Sunday, August 16, Proceeds are providing service dogs for veterans suffering from PTSD.

Mayor Vargas thanked Public Works for their work removing downed branches and that ComEd is working to restore power throughout the City. He also thanked Airline Towing for offering a generator for Senior Suites.

Mayor Vargas stated that the City is on top of any possible Social Unrest that might occur, he also announced that he should be having the Mayor's Advisory Board up and running soon.

Mayor Vargas announced that we were accepting Bids for the demolition of the former Formold Plastics building at 119th & Vincennes.

Mayor Vargas thanked Julie Sklom, Maria Almazan and James Amato & Ald. Stevo for their help cleaning the rain gardens.

Mayor Vargas thanked Municipal Services for moving forward toward becoming ALS certified

Governor Pritzker put forth new CDC guidelines for mask and social distancing with possible misdemeanor charges and fines up to $2,500

Census volunteers will be going door to door to finalize the 2020 Census and asked that all participate.

ALDERMANIC ANNOUNCEMENTS/COMMENTS

Alderman Hill thanked Public Works for their work as a result of the storm

Alderman Rita asked that the rat abatement program get started ASAP and thanked Public Works for their work as a result of the storm.

Alderman Alexander thanked everyone for their support for her shred event. And that is a mask give away on Thursday, August

Alderman Fahrenwald reminded everyone of the mask giveaway Saturday at Eisenhower High School,

Alderman Bilotto thanked those who supported St. Donatus during their Pizzarama.

Alderman Johnson thanked the Mayor's office for keeping ComEd in the loop about where the power outages are in Blue Island,
