Chicago Heights FD responds to 115 fires in 2018

Chicago Heights Fire Department responded to 862 calls in 2018 - 6 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Chicago Heights included 115 fires - 59 structure fires, 24 vehicle fires and 32 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $609,274 in fire loss - or about $5,298 per fire.

The department also received 742 false calls, including 28 malicious calls and 714 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.
