Alsip FD responds to 69 fires in 2018

Alsip Fire Department responded to 533 calls in 2018 - 14.6 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Alsip included 69 fires - 23 structure fires, 23 vehicle fires and 23 other fires.

In all, the department saw $1,214,350 in fire loss - or about $17,599 per fire.

The department also received 464 false calls, including four malicious calls and 460 other false calls.

Two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Alsip Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 35 active employees and 42 retired or inactive employees, was $118,065 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,640 for every fire in 2017.
