After Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-Illinois) announced the basketball season would be delayed because of an increase in COVID-19 cases, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors made a decision to go against Governor Pritzker, and continue on with the season.
After hearing the news, Thornridge High School Boys Basketball head coach, Rocky Hill, spoke up about no one being in the wrong with their decision.
"The IHSA, you know, they just want to try to do what's best for the kids. I mean, that's just what they do and I'm sure Governor Pritzker does as well. I mean, to me, there is no wrong in this. I just think that it's just the differences of opinion. I know the HSA knows and all these kids want to play basketball and to help them get college scholarships and college opportunities," said Hill.

Hill is unsure what is in store for the season since each school district can make its own decision.
"I don't know yet. Nobody has made an announcement yet we're all on hold. Since the IHSA has left it up to the school districts it's going to be interesting to see what's going to occur." said Hill.
The IHSA is confident in its decision to continue the upcoming season as planned.
"The Board remains considerate of rising COVID-19 cases in Illinois and understand the importance of adhering to safety guidelines for the good of all citizens," a statement from the IHSA said, told by Patch. "However, the Board has not been presented any causal evidence that rising COVID-19 cases make basketball more dangerous to play by the IDPH or any other health organization nationally or internationally. On the contrary, the IHSA has been looking to bordering states who have sponsored both medium risk and high risk sports in the fall that have noted a low incident rate of COVID-19 spread."
