Bremen High School District 228 Board of Education met Sept. 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

1 President Resler called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

2 Board of Education

Present: Mr. Canning, Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kampwirth, Ms. Stearns, Mr. Whitcomb, Mrs. Resler

Absent: None

Central Office & Principals

Present: Dr. Kendall, Dr. Goggins, Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. Giglio-Byczek, Mr. Boswell, Mrs. Taylor, Dr. Nolan, Dr. Sikora

3 Mr. Canning moved to approve the regular and closed session minutes of August 18, 2020. Mrs. Gleason seconded the motion. Roll call vote indicated:

Ayes: Mr. Canning, Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kampwirth, Ms. Stearns, Mr. Whitcomb, Mrs. Resler

Nays: None

4 Mrs. Resler opened the floor to the public for comments.

There being no public comments, Mrs. Resler closed the floor to the public.

5 Mrs. Morrison held a public hearing on the Transfer of $1,725,000 from the Educational Fund to the Operations & Maintenance Fund as of June 30, 2020. Mrs. Gleason moved to open the floor to the public for comments. Mr. Canning seconded the motion. Roll call vote indicated:

Ayes: Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Canning, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kampwirth, Ms. Stearns, Mr. Whitcomb, Mrs. Resler

Nays: None

Discussion held regarding the purpose of the transfer. Mrs. Morrison explained the IRS is late on payments and the homeowner exemptions are high. There being no additional public comments, Mrs. Gleason moved to close the floor to the public. Mr. Whitcomb seconded. Roll call vote indicated:

Ayes: Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Whitcomb, Mr. Canning, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kampwirth, Ms. Stearns, Mrs. Resler

Mrs. Morrison held a public hearing on the Bremen High School District 228 Fiscal Year 2021 Budget. Mr. Whitcomb moved to open the floor to the public for comments. Mr. Canning seconded. Roll call vote indicated:

Ayes: Mr. Whitcomb, Mr. Canning, Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kampwirth, Ms. Stearns, Mrs. Resler

Nays: None

Discussion held on the budget plans. Mrs. Morrison explained the delayed property tax payments and a decrease on interest earnings. Mr. Canning asked how the budget is calculated, what money is being saved without students in the buildings and how much does the district receive annually from registration fees. Mrs. Morrison provided a response. There being no additional public comments, Mr. Canning moved to close the floor to the public. Mrs. Gleason seconded. Roll call vote indicated:

Ayes: Mr. Canning, Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kampwirth, Ms. Stearns, Mr. Whitcomb, Mrs. Resler

Freedom of Information Act Requests

Since the last regular Board meeting, we have received the following Freedom of Information Act request.

 Helen Oliver, Quadient, requesting a copy of the postage equipment lease for the mailing equipment used at Bremen Community High School District 228, 15233 S. Pulaski Rd. Midlothian, IL 60445. This request is being completed.

Salary and Benefits Report

By law, a compensation report is provided to the School Board annually. This report includes the base salary and benefits of specific staff members. This information will be sent to the School Board, and posted to the district’s web site, on or before October 1.

Superintendent’s Report

 The Illinois Association of School Boards will recognize Mrs. Kim Kampwirth and Mrs. Kristine Resler, for the time and effort they have devoted to IASB leadership activities and service to the public education community. They are now Master Board Members, Level II. Congratulations!

2 Mr. Canning commended teacher Mike Brown of Oak Forest High School for taking his e-learning to another level. Mr. Brown was featured on the news for taking his students on a virtual road trip during their history lessons.

Ms. Stearns thanked Dr. Kendall for taking a conservative approach concerning student safety.

3 Mrs. Morrison presented item 5.1 – Bills, Addendum to Bills, Payroll, and CDS Bills. Upon Ms. Stearns recommendation, Mr. Canning motioned to separate Prudential Defense Solutions from the Bills, Addendum to Bills, Payroll and CDS Bills for a separate vote. Mr. Whitcomb seconded the motion. Roll call vote indicated:

Ayes: Mr. Canning, Mr. Whitcomb, Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kampwirth, Ms. Stearns, Mrs. Resler

Nays: None

Mrs. Gleason moved to approve item 5.1. Mr. Canning seconded the motion. Roll call vote indicated:

Ayes: Mrs. Gleason, Mr. Canning, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Kampwirth, Ms. Stearns, Mr. Whitcomb, Mrs. Resler

Item 5.1B – Prudential Defense Solutions. Mrs. Gleason moved to approve item 5.1B.

Mr. Canning seconded the motion. Roll call vote indicated:
