A reported hack that affected the entire outward-facing communications for Chicago's Township High School District 211 recently left parents concerned after receiving offensive messages that appeared to come from the school.
The district revealed that outgoing emails, phone calls and text messages were all compromised, ABC 7 reported in mid-November. However, so far, the district has maintained that only outgoing communications systems were affected, and the personal information of students and families was not breached.
"The district's technology team is assessing any potential compromise of student or family data, but initial reports indicate that the data is secure," the district said in a statement, ABC 7 reported.
"It was just shocking," school parent Heather Heldt said, ABC 7 reported. "The fact that the school got hacked so easily seems a little bit alarming."
The incident is currently under investigation by both the district and local law enforcement, according to ABC 7.
