U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) put up a "There are two genders" sign outside of her office, which is across the hall from U.S. Rep. Marie Newman’s (D-Ill.) office in response to Newman’s hanging of a trans pride flag outside of her own office.
Newman, who has a trans daughter, tweeted about putting the transgender flag up.
“Our neighbor, @RepMTG, tried to block the Equality Act because she believes prohibiting discrimination against trans Americans is ‘disgusting, immoral, and evil,’” Newman tweeted. "Thought we’d put up our Transgender flag so she can look at it every time she opens her door(.)”
Greene responded on Facebook.
“Our neighbor, Congresswoman Marie Newman, wants to pass the so-called ‘Equality’ Act to destroy women’s rights and religious freedoms,” Greene said on Facebook. “Thought we’d put up our sign so she can look at it every time she opens her door(.)”
Greene’s sign says, “There are TWO genders: MALE & FEMALE 'Trust the Science!’”
The feud between Newman and Greene started on Wednesday after Green moved to adjourn a House sessions that lawmakers could “rethink” how they planned to vote on the Equality Act.
"As mothers, we all love and support our children,” Greene tweeted on Wednesday in response to Newman’s urging to pass the Equality Act. “But your biological son does NOT belong in my daughters’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams.”
Newman said the Equality Act is important.
“Without the Equality Act, millions of Americans like my daughter can be denied housing, education, and more simply because they identify as transgender,” Newman tweeted. "I’m voting to pass the Equality Act for my daughter - the strongest, bravest person I know.”
The Equality Act was created to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, gender identity and sexual orientation, the text of the bill states.
