Not long after being captured on a hot mic disparaging members of the public who attended recent Planning and Zoning Commission meetings, Homewood Economic and Community Development Director Angela Mesaros has resigned.
Patch reports Mesaros’ putdowns were made during a Zoom broadcast and were aimed at individuals who turned out for meetings held to determine the fate of the former Calumet Country Club.
Village manager Jim Marino said he accepted her resignation effective immediately.
“Ms. Mesaros' decision to resign followed a full investigation into comments she made during a sound check before the start of the planning and zoning commission public hearing on February 25, 2021,” Marino said in a statement. “Village policy prohibits the use of threatening language, regardless of intent or context."
In the recording, Mesaros can be heard allegedly referring to those who turned out to protest as “a**holes.”
Later, she can be heard laughing when joking about a gun.
"I have said words that were thoughtless and unkind towards members of this community,” Mesaros said as part of her apology. “My job is to help this community."
The commissioners were convened to discuss rezoning a property located at the northwest area of 175th Street and Dixie Highway.
