State Rep. Tim Ozinga (R-37th) recently tweeted his dismay over the passing of the criminal justice reform bill.

Upon passage of House Bill 3653 into law, a lot of Illinois Republicans expressed their dismay on everything about the bill. From the rapid processing of the bill to seemingly unfunded mandates, Republicans such as Tim Ozinga are unhappy about the whole thing.

Ozinga wrote on Twitter, “I have been on the record stating ways I support improving, and making policing more efficient. However, this ... needs to include the most impacted people – LE. Passed in the dead of night, legislators had no opp to study and find out what is in it.”

Ozinga’s contention is that Democrats didn’t include law enforcement officers in the discussion of this bill, which to him was a gross error on their part.

A lot of Republican lawmakers decry this bill because they believe that it adds unnecessary requirements for police officers.

They believe that it could snowball into a situation in which fewer qualified police candidates would apply for the job.
