City of Hometown City Council met Feb. 2

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Call to Roll Call: The Finance Committee meeting of the City Council of the City of Hometown was called to order by Mayor Kevin Casey at 7:00 P.M.

Roll call indicated that the following committee members were present:Aldermen Beyer, Reynolds and Banasiak. Quorum present Also present were Aldermen, Zak and Grochowski.

Mayor Casey turned the meeting over to Treasurer Roti. Treasurer Roti stated everyone should have three spreadsheets, the Budget Revenue, Actual –vs- Budget report and the Tax Collections.Tonight we will go over the anticipated revenue. The IML has been seeing better revenue than anticipated and we are hoping by the end of the fiscal year, April 30th it will be even better.Treasurer Roti went down the line items of anticipated revenue and noted the TelecommunicationTaxes are down with many people removing land lines. Treasurer Roti noted a decrease in BuildingPermit Fees, which could be in part due to Covid and he is hoping we see an increase in the coming months. Mayor Casey stated there are several large projects in town coming up which will bring in large permit fees. It was noted the Sales Tax is down some but Use Tax has increased. We see theVideo Gaming coming back as businesses open again. The Com Ed. Utility Tax is down, Nicor should be going up as it is now cold. Other line items that have decreased are fines, towing fees,LDR which all can be affected by Covid. The Cannabis Local Tax has increased. Red Light Fines are down also. Water and Sewer is self-supporting, the Library budget will be coming down the line as well as the Recreation budget. Mayor Casey stated if Kiddy Kapers does not come back, participation was way down last year, we may rent out the Patterson Building for parties. There was discussion regarding our new population numbers to come and the change in the per capita.Treasurer Roti stated he hopes our population holds. Treasurer Roti stated we will meet again in two weeks. Mayor Casey stated we were reimbursed for some expenses by the Cares Act and there is talk that more funding is coming.

Miscellaneous City Business:

Mayor Casey announced we were lucky to get a K9 dog donated to the Police Department. OfficerLis will be the owner and be trained right alongside the dog. This will assist us and surrounding communities. If our dog goes to another community and sniffs a large bust we would get a % of themoney from the drug bust.
