City of Palos Heights Public Safety Committee Met April 27.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Call to Order/ Roll Call 

The Public Safety Committee meeting was held at the Palos Heights City Hall. Chairman McGovern called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. In attendance were Chairman McGovern, Alderman Clifford, and Alderman Key. Alderman Kramarski was absent. Also in attendance were  Chief Yott and Deputy Chief Yott. IT Coordinator Chuck Hankus and Recording Secretary Liz Gutierrez were also present. 

Approval of Minutes 

Alderman McGovern made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 23, 2021 Public Safety  meeting, moved by Alderman Clifford and seconded by Alderman Key. On a voice vote, the  motion passed unanimously. 

Police Chief Yott reported as follows: 

POLICE ACTIVITY REPORT 

622 total calls for service March 2021 

TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT 

Hit & Run 7 

Property Damage 19 

Personal Injury 3

TOTAL 29 

MISCELLANEOUS REPORTS  

a) Police Department Budget Report - see attached 

b) SafeSpeed Report – 199 violations 

c) MSI Report 40 citation issued 

d) Training Report - 278 hours 

e) DUI Summary - 1 arrest 

Chairman McGovern inquired about training hours and if any of the officers were trained or licensed  forensic science investigators. Chief Yott responded that most, if not all, officers are trained in forensic  science. Deputy Chief Yott explained further that there are varying degrees/roles of forensic science  investigating including a forensic scientist which would be someone working in a lab. Many Palos  Heights officers have taken forensic training courses.

Correspondence/Employee Recognition 

∙ The Bridgeview Police Department sent a letter to Chief Yott expressing their sincere thanks and  appreciation to Sergeant John Parnitzke, Detective Todd Hutchinson, responding and assisting with the investigation and apprehension of a man that was shot and killed outside the Secretary State facility in Bridgeview. 

∙ Chief of Police Ricardo Mancha, from Bridgeview Police Department forwarded the PHPD a letter from an area resident who had witnessed, with her son, the shooting at the Bridgeview  DMV on March 24th 2021. She wanted to express her appreciation to the service workers who  masterfully responded to that tragic event. She went on to say that they all did an excellent job,  and did so with such determination and care and wished that this would have been portrayed in  the news. 

∙ Mr. Ritchie, a resident, came into the station and spoke with Deputy Chief Bill Czajkowski and  expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Officer Joe Carlson for his proficiency while  investigating a traffic crash he was involved in.

Aldermen's Comments 

Alderman Clifford clarified with the Chief about a speed report near Trinity College as requested by a resident. 

Alderman Key thanked Alderman McGovern his leadership and for being the chairperson for this committee for the last years. He will be stepping down from the chairman position. 

Adjourn 

There being no further business, Chairman McGovern made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Alderman Clifford. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.  

Meeting adjourned at 6:45 pm.
