Study suggests sun, not carbon dioxide is causing global warming

The Illinois Family Institute is drawing attention to a study entitled, “How much the sun influenced Northern Hemisphere temperature trends” that concludes that the sun and not human emissions of carbon dioxide may be fueling the warmer temperatures seen across the country over the last several decades.

The findings are in stark contrast with those put forth by the United Nations (UN) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Produced by a team of nearly two dozen scientists from around the globe, researchers charge previously conducted studies did not adequately factor in the role of solar energy in voicing their assessments. The new study was released to coincide with the UN’s release of its sixth assessment report, known as AR6, which once again points to mankind’s emissions of CO2 as the cause of global warming, adding human responsibility was “unequivocal.”

Arguing that the IPCC is mandated to find a scientific consensus, lead study author Dr. Ronan Connolly wrote, “The IPCC is mandated to find a consensus on the causes of climate change. I understand the political usefulness of having a consensus view in that it makes things easier for politicians.”

Connolly contends the facts are the facts.

“Science doesn’t work by consensus,” Connolly said. “In fact, science thrives best when scientists are allowed to disagree with each other and to investigate the various reasons for disagreement. I fear that by effectively only considering the data sets and studies that support their chosen narrative, the IPCC have seriously hampered scientific progress into genuinely understanding the causes of recent and future climate change.”

Even as the paper calls for further research to address lingering discrepancies, some contend the authors conclusively show that it is entirely possible that most or even all of the warming has nothing to do with man.

“Depending on which published data and studies you use, you can show that all of the warming is caused by the sun, but the IPCC uses a different data set to come up with the opposite conclusion,” Connolly told the Epoch Times.
