City of Hickory Hills City Council Met Aug. 12.

The regular meeting of the Hickory Hills City Council was called to order by Mayor Mike Howley at 7:31 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Howley lead the pledge of allegiance.

There being a quorum present the meeting was called to order.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Alderman Zimmerman moved to open the meeting to the public. Alderman Stachnik second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

No one spoke during this portion of the meeting.

CLOSE TO THE PUBLIC

Alderman Waight moved to close the meeting to the public. Alderman Purtill second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS

Alderman Kman moved to approve the minutes of the regularly scheduled meeting of July 22, 2021 as printed subject to deletions or corrections. Alderman Zimmerman second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Waight, Zimmerman aye. Alderman Stachnik pass. So approved.

REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS

MAYOR

Mayor Howley read a proclamation announcing the week of Sept 6th as National Payroll Week. He thanked all who contribute to the payroll process in the City.

Mayor Howley announced a grand opening will be held at Hickory Hills Nutrition on Saturday, August 21st at 11:00 a.m. They are located in Hickory Palos Square.

CITY CLERK

Clerk Catizone announced the City is sponsoring a vaccine clinic on Friday, August 20th from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. No appointments necessary. This event will be held at City Hall parking lot.

CITY TREASURER

CITY ATTORNEY

Attorney Cainkar presented Ordinance #21-10, an ordinance amending Section 24.15, automatic sprinkler systems, of Chapter 24, building code, of the Hickory Hills Municipal Code. Alderman McHugh moved to approve Ordinance #21-10. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

CITY ENGINEER

COMMUNICATIONS

BILLS PAYABLE

Alderman Kman moved to approve the bills payable for the first half of August 2021 in the amount of $680,938.16. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

STANDING COMMITTEES

Zimmerman/Public Works

Public Works Director Lehr reported lane prep work continues for asphalt with South side of 95th Street planned for asphalt to be complete this week and North side next week. The County stated substantial completion of the project on Roberts Road is planned for August 27th.

McHugh/Bldg./Facilities

Alderman McHugh reported the new doors at the Community Center has been installed.

Purtill/Laws & Ordinances

Alderman Purtill presented one business license application for Irish Castle Paving Company located at 7709 W. 99th Street. No objections were noted and the license will be issued.

Fonte/Health & Environmental Control

Alderman Fonte reported for the month of July, 2021 3,040 pounds with 33 stops were collected through the Waste Management’s At Your Door Services.

Ferrero/Community Affairs/Youth Advisory

Alderman Ferrero reported she has met with the Hills Chamber regarding a farmer’s market. Plans are underway to start in June, 2022. More details coming in the near future.

Alderman Ferrero reported she has met with the Hickory Hills Park District regarding the Children’s Christmas Party to be held in December. COVID protocols will be followed.

Waight/Chamber Business Development

NEW BUSINESS

Alderman Ferrero stated that on her block there have been quite a few water main breaks. She inquired if this needs to be investigated further. Public Works Director Lehr stated that mains are looked at routinely for replacement.

At this time, Open to the Public was opened again for a resident.

Ms. Martinez

8937 Golden Oak

Ms. Martinez is a nutritionist. She would like to work with the City to bring greater awareness of proper eating habits to our residents. She is currently working with the schools to provide information on healthy eating habits. Mayor Howley mentioned she may be able to have a table at the 5K in October.

ADJOURNMENT

Executive Session

Alderman Ferrero moved to adjourn this meeting into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing the Public Works Department Employee Contract. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.
