Last year the Oak Lawn Community High School girls golf team won its first-ever match, and this year was the team’s first official season. With the program still in its infancy, expectations were relatively unknown. However, the girls improved throughout the year and ended up finishing third out of six teams at the South Suburban Conference meet on Tuesday with a team score of 426.
“This was the first year as an official girls golf team, and I could not have asked for a better group of girls,” head coach Kate Mellone said. “They were great, and they all improved tremendously over the course of the season.”
The Junior Varsity team took home second place out of the three teams competing with a score of 496. The JV team had three girls place in the Top 10. Individually, the Junior Varsity team was led by freshman Katie Casey in fifth place, Jacky Canales in sixth, and Rocky Enriquez in ninth place. Three girls in the JV Top 10 stands as a great sign for the future of the girls program at OLCHS.
