Oak Lawn Community High School District 229 recently issued the following announcement.

Entering the South Suburban Conference girls tennis meet, head coach Dan Doyle was hoping to see some of the best performances of the season. He really wanted to make some noise before heading to the Illinois High School Association postseason. Last Wednesday in the opening round, the doubles team of Sandy Berg and Justyna Dzielska delivered that strong performance.

Dzielska and Berg impressed the competition with a hard-fought opening-match victory against a strong tandem from Richards. The Spartan duo overcame nerves and a noisy, partisan crowd to record a two-set victory. They eventually went on to bring home the silver medal with a second-place finish on Saturday at the conference finals.

“The number two doubles team of Sandy and Justyna had an outstanding conference tournament,” Doyle said. “They played well over the weekend.”

Equally impressive was the performance of Emily Pietrzak for Oak Lawn Community High School at number one singles. Pietrzak eventually lost to the conference champion in the second round, but the senior calmly claimed the bronze medal with a third-place finish later in the day.
