City of Palos Heights Public Safety Committee met July 27.

Call to Order/ Roll Call
The Public Safety Committee meeting was held at the Palos Heights City Hall. Chairman Basso called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm. In attendance were Chairman Basso and Alderman Clifford. Absent were: Alderman Lewandowski and Alderman McGovern. Also in attendance were Chief Yott, Deputy Chief Yott, and Recording Secretary Margaret Carey.
Approval of Minutes
Alderman Basso moved to approve the minutes of the June 22, 2021 Public Safety meeting, seconded by Alderman Clifford. All in favor. Motion carried.

Alderman Clifford inquired about an incident that occurred in Community Park with kids riding on motorized vehicles. Chief Yott said to definitely call the police if you see this happening. It is important to make parents aware that these vehicles are not allowed on the streets, in the park.
Correspondence/Employee Recognition
• A resident who put their house on House Watch wrote a letter expressing their gratitude and also bought in some baked goods to the PHPD.
• Area resident showed his appreciation to Officer Joe Carlson for dropping off literature regarding varioussupportservices to families who are trying to help familymembers with substance abuse or mental health issues.
• Sharon Jarema, from Palos Heights, called and thanked the officers who offered her assistance with the death of her son, Tim. She specifically identified Officer Tony Delaney who did a great job helping her out.
• Deputy Chief Bill Czajkowski offered his appreciation to Srgt. Parnitzke, Det. Todd Hutchinson, Officer Darcy Birkmeier and Officer John Zintak in doing an outstandingand thorough job on an incident/investigation at Navajo School, where the parents have agreed to make full restitution and the juvenile offenders will be performing community service at the school.
• Sergeant Travis Pirtle, from the Worth Police Dept., wrote a letter to thank Officer Wiegand and Officer Paluch for their assistance in apprehending a subject involved ina Criminal Trespass to Motor Vehicle.
• The USIC (United States Interdiction Coordinator) within the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) recognizes individuals and units who have shown exceptional innovation, tactics, and resultsinterdicting illicit drugs and precursor chemicals as well as dismantling key drug trafficking organizations has selected Craig Clark one of PHPD, DEA agents for the 2020 USIC Award. Excellent job Craig.
• Alderman, Jerry McGovern, expressed his appreciation to the PHPD for helping out with the severe weather storm that hit Palos Heights, on June 20th, 2021. He was impressed with the instantaneous response of the Department with all the calls of the trees down, branches blocking the roadways and buildings damaged. He was thankfulof their keen awareness to the total situation at hand. Commended the whole force.
• Deputy Chief Bill Czajkowski nominated Sergeant Adam F. Nagy forthe Peer Recognition Award, for his training and professionalism in dealing with a subject who had made deadly threats against his step-father and his desire to commit suicideby cop. Sergeant Nagy was able to converse with subject's mother and the subject and was able to persuade the subject to come to the police station to talk. The subjectarrived at the station unarmed and was taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation without incident. Excellent work.
• Community appreciation was shown to the night shift when 2 PHPD officers went topick up dinner from Capri, paid by a local resident, the entire restaurant stood up and applauded them for over 3 minutes for their services, it was quite a sight to see.
• On 6/24/21, a local couple donated $10,000, a memorabilia collection, to show their appreciation for the job the police do and the struggles that they face. They wanted part of that donation to help fund vests, equipment, etc.

Chairman Basso reminded that National Night Out will take place Tuesday, August 3rd.
