City of Hometown City Council met Sept. 14.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Call to Order: The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Hometown was called to order by Mayor Casey at 7:00 P.M.

Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Alderman Banasiak.

Roll Call: Roll call indicated that the following were present: Aldermen Kurysz, Reynolds, Banasiak, Grochowski, Smith, Beyer, Finnegan, Walsh and Zak.

Absent: Alderman Barnhouse.

Also present: Michael Cainkar, City Attorney, Louis Dominguez, Chief of Police, Bonnie Gesiakowski, Director of Public Health and Safety, Mark Trlak, Director of Public Works and James Forbes, Building Commissioner.

Press: Kelly White, Hometown Hi-Lites.

Journal August 24, 2021: Moved by Alderman Finnegan, seconded by Alderman Beyer to approve as published the Journal of August 24, 2021 Regular City Council Meeting.

Roll Call Indicated:

REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS

Office of the Mayor:

Mayor Casey stated we have special guests here tonight. A West Side girls travel team used Patterson Park for their season this year. The team coaches maintained the fields, grounds, they hung thank you banners to the City of Hometown and Recreation Commission. It was great, the fields were full most nights all summer. Many of our residents came to enjoy the games and the concession stand. The team won several championships, and it was exciting to watch. They loved playing They loved playing in Hometown and have decided to leave the West Side Organization and play as a Hometown Team. The team members presented the City of Hometown with a wonderful plaque in thanks for the use of the field.

Mayor Casey stated he is looking for two people to fill vacated spots on the Park Board. Courtney Jandeska and Cathy Casey have left the board. Mayor Casey is also looking for two members for the Zoning Board as two members have moved out of town. Interested residents should reach out to him.

Office of the City Clerk:

Clerk Hacker reported that her office received notification from the Department of Revenue that the Sales Tax collected in the month of April 2021 was in the amount of $16,518.40 the amount collected in the month of April 2020 was in the amount of $15,764.13

Clerk Hacker reported that her office received notification from the Department of Transportation that the MFT collected in the month of April 2021 was in the amount of $14,326.89 the amount collected in the month of April 2020 was in the amount of $ 12,898.57.

Office of the Treasurer:

Treasurer Roti stated everyone should have the reports generated from his office, everything is going well, Video Gaming is coming in good. Treasurer Roti stated he will have an Actual vs Budget report soon.

REPORTS FROM CITY APPOINTED OFFICIAL

City Attorney: Michael Cainkar, City Attorney had no report.

Police: Louis Dominguez, Chief of Police reported the investigation division is working hard. They recently worked a case that brought a six (6) count felony indictment. There was an incident on a Thursday at the Mobil and by Saturday they had the offender in custody. As far as the incident, there was no need for an alert to be sent out, there was no threat to the community, the two people involved knew each other. Mayor Casey stated “they are doing remarkable work.”

Public Works: Mark Trlak, Director reported the street sweeper came through last night. We have had hot patch put in the street cracks throughout town. We have been doing yellow curb painting. The state finally fixed the potholes on 87th Street and we continue to do routine work.

Building: James Forbes, Building Commissioner had no report.

Public Health and Safety: Bonnie Gesiakowski reported we are working on having the weeds between and behind the garages removed and pointing out no more bird feeders to residents. Mayor Casey stated you are doing a great job.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Accounts Payable Payroll September 14, 2021: Moved by Alderman Beyer, seconded by Alderman Banasiak to approve for payment the accounts payable vouchers in the amount of $91,834.50 and payroll vouchers in the amount of $73,487.65 for a total expenditure of $165,322.15.

Alderman Glen Zak, Chairman had no report.

WATER AND SEWER COMMITTEE

Alderman Walsh, Chairman moved, seconded by Alderman Kurysz to authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to sign Hometown’s Water Supply contract with Chicago.

PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE

Alderman Smith, Chairman had no report.

BUILDING COMMITTEE

Alderman Barnhouse, Chairman was absent, Alderman Walsh gave the Building Report.

Mayor Casey stated the permit fees are up due to the Co-ops doing the siding and roofing on all buildings.

LICENSE COMMITTEE: Alderman Donna Grochowski, Chairman had no report.

CODE AND ORDINANCE COMMITTEE: Alderman Bob Reynolds, Chairman called for a committee meeting next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

INSURANCE COMMITTEE:Alderman Rick Banasiak, Chairman had no report.

PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE: Alderman Luci Kurysz, Chairman had no report.

POLICE COMMITTEE: Alderman Finnegan, Chairman gave the activity for July.

REPORTS FROM SPECIAL COMMITTEES

Library: Alderman Grochowski reported the circulation for September 2021 was 456, September 2020 was 527. They received a $800.00 donation from the family of a resident that used the library often that recently passed away, Mrs. Mona Zickus. The next meeting is October 6, 2021.

Legislation: Alderman Beyer had no report.

Fire Department: Alderman Rick Banasiak reported they approved the law firm to prepare the 2020-2021 reports for the state. There were 989 calls in September 2021, 877 in 2020.

Personnel Review: Mayor Kevin Casey, Chairman had no report. Chief Dominguez had no report.

PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS RESOLUTIONS, ORDERS AND ORDINANCES BY ALDERMEN

Special Events: Alderman Grochowski reported the 9-11 memorial ceremony was a good program, thanks you to the Fire Chief, VFW, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion, Father Tom and the Mayor. Over eighty people attended.

Health, Welfare & Community Awareness: Alderman Grochowski reported Jewel Osco will be giving Flu/Pneumonia shots on September 25, 2021 at Patterson Park. There will be another branch pick up in October on Monday the 4th and Tuesday the 12th.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: NONE

NEW BUSINESS: Mayor Casey stated he recently sent a letter to IDOT approving the traffic changes necessary for the Car Wash to open. There was a gaming meeting and all applicants for Hometown locations were moved to the October 21st meeting date. Mayor Casey thanked Clerk Hacker for her work on the paperwork for us to receive funds in the President Biden recovery act, we expect over $280,000.00. We received a certificate from the County approving our resurface project for Beck Place from Kostner to 87th Place. Mayor Casey thanked the Cainkar firm for keeping us abreast of the funds available. If you go to the Go Puff website, Hometown is listed as a new location.

CITIZEN’S HEARING: A Reavis student asked if he could volunteer for events we have for his necessary community service, he left his name and contact number. Resident Cathy O’Shea discussed an issue about the local ordinance court, and she was advised of the next court date.

ADJOURNMENT: Motion made by Alderman Reynolds, seconded by Alderman Zak to adjourn the regular meeting of the Hometown City Council.
