City of Palos Heights Liquor Commission met Aug. 3.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

A public hearing was held before the Liquor Commissioner of the City of Palos Heights at City Hall, 7607 West College Drive, Palos Heights, Illinois 60463, to consider a request for a Retailer’s Class A Liquor License filed by Don Borschel and David Heide, a/k/a LFD Squared LLC, d/b/a The Haven Indoor Golf, on property located at 12317 S. Harlem Avenue, Palos Heights, Illinois.

The hearing was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Liquor Commissioner Mayor Robert Straz. Present were Don Borschel, David Heide, and Margaret Carey, Assistant to the Mayor.

Mayor Straz noted the public hearing notice was published in The Daily Southtown on July 15, 2021. He reviewed the application file and background checks and said everything appeared to be in order.

David Heide inquired about the State license. The Mayor explained that after he received the license from the City, he would need to apply for his retailer’s license with the Illinois Liquor Control Commission.

The Mayor asked to explain the business. Mr. Heide said there will be indoor golf simulation, with over 50 courts. They will also serve food, such as hot dogs, beef, pizza, and salads. Mr. Borschel added it will be fun entertainment for the families of Palos Heights and surrounding communities. They will also have leagues for seniors. It is a similar concept to the indoor golf facility in Orland Park and Oak Lawn. The Mayor commented it will bring a new entertainment destination to our City and could benefit our other businesses as well, such as restaurants.

Don Borschel will be the General Manager. They will be looking to hire staff soon, with an anticipated opening in the fall.

No members of the community were present to dispute the request.

The Mayor explained that liquor licenses in Palos Heights were created by ordinance. He would make his recommendation to approve the request for a Class A Liquor License to the City Council at their meeting scheduled for August 17, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. The Mayor said that one of them should attend the meeting to answer any questions the City Council may have.

The hearing was adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
