Illinois Republican House Leader Jim Durkin recently hosted a winter clothing drive for the People’s Resource Center (PRC), where he urged as many residents as possible to take part in the giving.
“If you are able, please consider donating new or gently used winter coats, hats, gloves, and other outerwear during our Winter Clothing Drive this year,” Durkin posted on Facebook leading up to the event. “All donated items will be turned over to the People’s Resource Center for distribution to area families in need.”
Donations are accepted through Nov. 29 at drop-off locations across the community, including Durkin’s district office in Burr Ridge, the Thomas Ford Library in Western Springs and the Indian Prairie Library in Darien.
For nearly five decades now PRC has been bringing neighbors together to respond to hunger and poverty in DuPage County.
According to the organization’s website, nearly 26,000 DuPage residents now rely on PRC for help each year with the majority of the support coming from area residents.
“With a team of over 2,600 volunteers, we offer nutritious food and other basic necessities like clothes and rent assistance for people facing tough times,” the group added. “We also connect people with resources—education and tutoring, jobs, technology, art, a caring community—to create a future of hope and opportunity for all.”
With a motto of “still serving the community neighbor to neighbor,” the organization touts its mission as “responding to basic human needs, promoting dignity and justice, and creating a future of hope and opportunity for the residents of DuPage County.”
