Village of East Hazel Crest Board met Sept. 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Regular Meeting of the President and Board of Trustees convened at 7 pm Officials: Mayor Thomas A. Brown, Adm. Lazuka and Clerk Minnis

Roll Call: Trustees Forte, Keams, Johnson, Ewan, & Ortiz present; Tr. Wideman was absent.

Also present were PW J. White,, PD Chief Janich, FD Deputy Chief Mills, S. Slobowski, J. Hale, Jo Ann Murry and Carol Cook.

Invocation & Pledge. Silent invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Minutes: Trustees Kearns and Ortiz made the motions to approve the minutes of the 9/8/21 Regular Mtg. of the Village Board. All trustees present were in favor (Tr. Wideman was absent). Mtn. carried.

Reports of Village Officials:

Mayor's Report:

1) Proclamation: Railway Safety Week, 2021.

Mayor Brown read the Proclamation declaring the week of Sept. 20-26 as Railway Safety Week in East Hazel Crest and urged residents to recognize the importance of rail safety education.

Administrator's Report:

1) Purchase of 2 radios using Network 3. Trustees Keams and Forte made the motions to approve the purchase. Roll Call: all trustees present voted aye; Tr. Wideman was absent. Mtn. carried.

2) PD Vehicle purchase. Adm. Lazuka spoke of the need to purchase a new PD vehicle, After a brief discussion, Trustees Ortiz and Ewan made the motions to approve the purchase. Roll Call: all trustees present voted aye; Tr. Wideman was absent. Mtn. carried.

3) Progress on PW vehicle. Adm. Lazuka informed members of the progress on researching the purchase of a new truck for Public Works including possibly getting one from a dealership where one of our FD volunteers works. We're still looking; but it'll cost between $41,000 and $49,000.00.

4) New pump for retentions pond near apartments on Lathrop. Discussion. Labor & materials will add to the cost of $5,132.00. It's something that is needed. Trustees Ortiz and Johnson made the motions to purchase the pump, Roll Call: all trustees present voted aye; Tr. Wideman was absent. Mtn. carried.

5) Update and discussion on ditch repair project. This project is replacing culverts on 172nd St. between Laflin and Throop. The project will cost $60,000. MFT funds will only pay for a portion of the project that will begin next week starting with Throop to Loomis. Discussion on a cost sharing of 50-50 or $100.00 with the homeowner being able to pay their share within one year

CLERK: Residents were reminded that Rep. Davis's SHRED DAY is this Saturday from 9 AM until Noon.

OPEN TO VISITORS: Trustees Ortiz and Johnson made the motions to open this segment of the meeting to the Public. All trustees present were in favor. Tr. Wideman was absent. Mtn. carried. Time 7:32 pm

Carol Cook inquired "what's MFT". Mayor Brown that it's Motor Fuel Tax that is the Village's share of the tax you pay for fuel.

JoAnn Murry inquired about sink holes. ? from septic tanks or septic fields? Mayor Brown said the septic tanks and septic fields were negated on the east side of the Village in the mid 1950's when sanitary sewers were put in on the East side of town. Ms. Murry also complained about the deteriorated stripping on 175TH St. and on Ashland A venue. The Village will contact Cook County about the Ashland street stripping.

Stan Slobowski told of sink holes on Village property on 172nd St. west of Loomis. He was worried about children getting hurt. Disc. followed about possibly putting in loads of dirt. Mayor Brown said the Village Engineers will do soil borings to determine the solution.

CLOSE TO VISITORS-There being no add'l. input from those present, Trustees Kearns and Ortiz made the motions to close this segment of the meeting. All trustees present were in favor; Tr. Wideman was absent. Mtn. carried. Time: 7:45pm.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Streets: Tr. Forte told of a sink hole between her property and her neighbor. PW's will check it out.

1401 W. 174th st. - Carlson's lot.

Finance/License: Tr. Johnson & TR. Ortiz made the motions to pay all bills on the 9/22/21 Claims sheets in the amount of $61,182.99.

Roll Call: all trustees present voted aye. Tr. Wideman was absent.

Mtn. carried.

SIGNS: Tr. Kearns reported Inspection of all signs in the Village have been made and bills sent out to Sign owners.

HEALTH/SAFETY/PERSONNEL; No report by Tr. Ewan.

WATER/SEWERS; Tr. Wideman was absent.

POLICE/FIRE: Tr. Ortiz. read the EHCVFD report for the month of August, 2021. This report will be on file in the Clerk's office.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None

NEW BUSINESS: none

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

-SHRED DAY -this Saturday, 9/25/21 from 9 AM until Noon.

-Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller will be a guest at the 10/13 .21 mtg.

-Deputy Fire Chief Mills spoke of the Department's Fund Raiser- the annual Pancake Breakfast, held on Sept. 19th, 2021. The EHCVFD annual Halloween Party will be held on Sunday, October 31, 2021

Trick N Treat hours will be on October 31, 2021 from 1 PM until dusk. Executive Session: none
