City of Palos Heights Public Safety Committee met Sept. 28.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Call to Order/ Roll Call

The Public Safety Committee meeting was held at the Palos Heights City Hall. Chairman Basso called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. In attendance were Chairman Basso, Alderman Lewandowski, Alderman Clifford, and Alderman McGovern. Also in attendance were Chief Yott, Deputy Chief Yott, Sergeant John Parnitzke, City Administrator David Strohl, and Recording Secretary Margaret Carey.

Approval of Minutes

Alderman McGovern moved to approve the minutes of the August 24, 2021 Public Safety meeting, seconded by Alderman Lewandowski. All in favor. Motion carried.

A presentation was given by Sergeant John Parnitzke regarding “Flock Safety License Plate Readers (LPRs) Grant”. The committee discussed the program.

Alderman Basso motioned to approved forwarding this agenda item, “Flock Safety License Plate Readers (LPRs) Grant” application to City Council for discussion and possible approval, seconded by Alderman Lewandowski. All in favor. Motion carried. AGENDA

Correspondence/Employee Recognition

• Doughboys Bakery of Palos Heights dropped off 2 dozen donuts in support of PHPD. • 2 area residents dropped off baked goods in appreciation of their homes being patrolled while they were on vacation.

• Northwestern Medicine/Palos Hospital wrote a letter to PHPD expressing their gratitude for affording them the opportunity to use Officer Eric Czajkowski as a role player in their infant abduction simulation drill on July 29th, 2021. Officer Czajkowski's participation enabled their staff to conduct a successful training exercise that tested their ability to respond to what could have been an actual critical incident which would have greatly impacted thisinstitution. They are thankful for the solid relationship that they have forged with the PHPD over the years.

• The FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit and Steven Conlon recently conducted virtual training for law enforcement agencies across the U.S. titled "Interagency Structured Approach to Solve Homicides." Sgt. Wodka of PHPD assisted them with this, and they wanted to express their appreciation to Sgt. Wodka forthe information he shared with theattendees. Sgt. Wodka was praised for his presentation and specifically both the content and professional manner it was delivered.

• On August 20th, 2021 PHPD participated in the Dunkin "Cop on Rooftop" fundraiser aspart of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. It was a huge success, PHPD raised $3419.64. Thanks to all the officers that participated.

• Sgt. John Parnitzke, from PHPD, has been elected to the position of President of the 500thclass of the School of Police Staff and Command. Election to this position is an exceptional indication of the high regard that his classmates have for him.

• Officer Joe Carlson received a complimentary letter from a biker that was struck by a car. Although the biker wasn't injured, he said Officer Carlson was professional, courteous, and went out of his way to help him. He transported the biker and his damaged bike back to his car that was parked miles away.

• Deputy Chief Bill Czajkowski wanted to extend his sincere appreciation to the PHPD and everyone who helped in this year's National Night Out. Many City officials and residents from the community couldn't have been more complimentary of our staff and overall department. A special thanks to Kevin Apostle and Mike Mathis who spear headed this event.

• Tyler Murphy, a former C.S.O. sent a thank you note to the PHPD expressing his gratitude for all that he learned here for the past year and 8 months. He is now at the Chicago Police Academy and we wish him nothing but good luck and success in his new endeavor.

• Officers Walter Droba and Kevin Pomper received a Peer Recognition Award for diffusing 2 situations to a peaceful ending and doing it with patience and professionalism.

Aldermen's Comments

Alderman Lewandowski said he received an email from a resident expressing concern about increased traffic on 124th Street due to the 123rd Street closure. Can we install temporary stop signs on 124th? Chief Yott will discuss with the Public Works Director.

There being no further business, Chairman Basso made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Alderman McGovern. All in favor. Motion carried.
