Governors State University issued the following announcement on Jan. 10
Governors State won its second game in a row and DeAndrey Robinson placed his name in the record book as GSU defeated Cardinal Stritch, 77-76, Monday evening at the CSU Field House. The Jaguars improved to 8-10 overall and 5-6 in the CCAC.
Robinson became the school's all-time leading rebounder, claiming his 579th board with 6:46 remaining in the second half, surpassing Jalen Miller who played from 2015-18. DR2 finished the game with 19 points and seven rebounds. Guard Adam Taylor netted a team-high 20 points, matching his season-high, by knocking down four 3-pointers and 7-of-10 field goal attempts in 27 minutes.
Payton Harley amassed 15 points and seven assists while Chris Winters, who played two seasons at Cardinal Stritch, collected six points and eight rebounds in his return to Panella Court.
CSU's Blake Hildenbrand's sank a jumper at the buzzer for a potential game-tying bucket, but officials ruled his shot just shy of the 3-point line, allowing GSU to escape with its fourth road win of the season. Stritch (3-12, 1-8 CCAC) shot 50 percent on the night and was led by Zac Velthouse's 20 points.
"Stritch made a game of it at the end, so we feel fortunate to come out with a win," said GSU Head Coach Tony Bates. "It's that time of the year where every win is huge in the standings."
