Trinity Christian College Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 27
After the Trolls dominated the first set at DeVos Gymnasium Wednesday night, Aurora University (1-2) (NCAA DIII) woke up and edged Trinity Christian College (4-4, 0-0 CCAC) in five sets. The Trolls won set one, 25-15, before Aurora won sets two and three, 25-19, 31-29. Trinity hung on 25-23 in set four but it was a 15-12 win for Aurora in set five to get the win.
The most mesmerizing set of the night came in set three when the Trolls trailed 24-18. They marched back and with the match tied at 29, Aurora snuck away for the victory.
The Trinity attack was led by outside hitter, senior Adam Becker. He finished with a career high 18 kills while sophomore Alex Costa added another 16 kills for the Trolls offensive attack. Costa also had nine digs to spearhead the defense. Sophomore Nick Mioni added seven digs. Mioni also had a career-high 34 assists for the match.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- Costa is off to a sensational start. He has had 10 or more kills in seven of eight matches and has an attack percentage of .344. In 2021, Costa ended the year with an attack percentage of .234.
- Becker did his damage with an attack percentage of .419 (18-5-31).
- Mioni went for 34 assists. It's the first time this year he has had more than 20 assists. His previous career was 29 assists on Feb. 13, 2021 against Webber International.
- The Trolls had a season-high of 52 assists as a team.
