City of Hometown City Council met Dec. 14.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Call to Order: The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Hometown was called to order by Mayor Casey at 7:00 P.M.

Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Alderman Beyer.

City Clerk Mary Jo C. Hacker was absent, Deputy Clerk Sharon Harland was present.

Roll Call: Roll call indicated that the following were present: Aldermen Kurysz, Finnegan, Banasiak, Grochowski, Beyer, Barnhouse and Walsh.

Absent: Alderman Reynolds, Zak and Smith.

Also present: Michael Cainkar, City Attorney, Louis Dominguez Chief of Police, Mark Trlak, Director of Public Works, Bonnie Gesiakowski, Director of Public Health and Safety and James Forbes Building Commissioner.

Press: Kelly White, Hometown Hi-Lites.

Journal November 9, 2021: Moved by Alderman Walsh, seconded by Alderman Finnegan to approve as published the Journal of November 9, 2021 Regular City Council Meeting.

Roll Call Indicated:

AYES: (6) Aldermen Finnegan, Banasiak, Walsh, Kurysz, Barnhouse and Grochowski.

NAYS: (0)

ABSENT: (3) Aldermen Reynolds, Zak and Smith.

ABSTENSION: (1) Alderman Beyer.

MOTION DECLARED CARRIED

CITIZEN’S HEARING

Jaclyn Bozinovich of 4500 West 90th Place addressed the City Council regarding the new regulation on overnight parking limiting them to four times a month. Options were explained as well as the reasoning.

REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS

Office of the Mayor:

Mayor Casey stated he wanted to appoint John Polich to the Zoning Board, John and his wife Marilyn were born and raised here, he owns two homes here and cares about the city.

Moved by Alderman Kurysz, seconded by Alderman Beyer to approve the appointment of John Polich to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Roll Call Indicated:

AYES: (7) Aldermen Finnegan, Banasiak, Walsh, Kurysz, Barnhouse, Beyer and Grochowski.

NAYS: (0)

ABSENT: (3) Aldermen Reynolds, Zak and Smith.

MOTION DECLARED CARRIED

Mayor Casey reported that the Facts not Facebook meeting went well. It last approximately three (3) hours and Mayor Casey thanked those that gave up their Saturday to attend. The next meeting will be January 15, 2021 at Noon at the Patterson Park Building. Go Puff will be opening next month. There was nothing new to report with the church or advocate. Pizza Plus has been sold and the new owners are a father and son, they plan to expand the menu.

Office of the City Clerk:

Deputy Clerk Harland notified the City Council the Clerk’s office received from the Department of Revenue that the Sales Tax collected in the month of October 2021 was in the amount of $23,632.55 the amount collected in the month of October 2020 was in the amount of $15,118.76

Deputy Clerk Harland notified the City Council the Clerk’s office received from the Department of Transportation that the MFT collected in the month of October 2021 was in the amount of $13,850.33 the amount collected in the month of October 2020 was in the amount of $13,752.13.

Office of the Treasurer:

Treasurer Roti stated everyone should have the reports generated from his office. Sales Tax is good, gaming revenue is good. We will be approving the Tax Levy tonight and the audit is wrapping up, we are in good shape

REPORTS FROM CITY APPOINTED OFFICIAL

City Attorney: Michael Cainkar, City Attorney, had no report.

Police: Louis Dominguez, Chief of Police, reported he and the Police Department participated in an event, Shop with a Cop, items were purchased for families in need and two Hometown families benefited. Chief Dominguez reported an incident where one of our officer’s used CPR and helped a non-responsive person.

Public: Mark Trlak, Director, reported they are doing routine work and installing new reflective signs in town. Building: James Forbes, Building Commissioner, had no report.

Public Health and Safety: Bonnie Gesiakowski stated we are heading in the right direction with rodent control and people should still call City Hall with issues.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Accounts Payable Payroll December 13, 2021: Moved by Alderman Beyer, seconded by Alderman Banasiak to approve for payment the accounts payable vouchers in the amount of $90,927.97 and payroll vouchers in the amount of $80,797.16 for a total expenditure of $171,725.13. (List of vouchers marked “EXHIBIT A” attached to and made a part of this Journal) Roll Call Indicated:

Alderman Beyer acknowledged receipt of the City Treasurer’s Report and the Clerk Collector’s Report.

STREETS, SIDEWALKS AND MUNICIPAL BUILDING COMMITTEE

Alderman Glen Zak, Chairman had no report.

WATER AND SEWER COMMITTEE

Alderman Walsh, Chairman had no report.

PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE

Alderman Smith, Chairman had no report.

BUILDING COMMITTEE

Alderman Barnhouse, Chairman gave the building report.

LICENSE COMMITTEE: Alderman Donna Grochowski, Chairman had no report. CODE AND ORDINANCE COMMITTEE: Alderman Bob Reynolds was absent.

INSURANCE COMMITTEE:Alderman Rick Banasiak, Chairman had no report.

PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE: Alderman Luci Kurysz, Chairman Had no report.

POLICE COMMITTEE: Alderman Finnegan, Chairman gave the activity for October 2021. State Tickets:44 P Tickets:450 C Tickets: 7 Warnings:189 (90 HT Residents) Incidents:181

REPORTS FROM SPECIAL COMMITTEES

Library: Alderman Grochowski reported the circulation for November 2020 was 439, for November 2021 it was 403. One of the computers crashed and needed repair. The library now has books in Spanish. The next meeting will be January 5, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.

Legislation: Alderman Beyer had no report. Mayor Casey discussed the new congressional district map.

Fire Department: Alderman Rick Banasiak reported they had a special meeting to pass their budget.

Personnel Review: Mayor Kevin Casey, Chairman, had no report. Chief Dominguez had no report.

PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS RESOLUTIONS, ORDERS AND ORDINANCES BY ALDERMEN

ORD. NO. Moved by Alderman Banasiak, Seconded by Alderman Beyer to Approve Ordinance No.9-2021, 9-2021: an Ordinance Providing for the Levying, Assessment and Collection of Taxes for the Fiscal Year Ending April 30, 2022 for the City of Hometown.
