City of Palos Heights License, Permits & Franchise Committee met Dec.14.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

CALL TO ORDER

Chairman Lewandowski called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. In attendance were Alderman Basso, Alderman McGovern, Building Commissioner Frank Giordano, and City Administrator David Strohl.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Alderman Lewandowski made a motion to approve the minutes of the November 9, 2021 meeting, seconded by Alderman McGovern. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously.

PERMIT & CODE ENFORCEMENT REPORT

Chairman Lewandowski referred to the permit report in the agenda packet. For the permit period from November 4, 2021 – December 8, 2021, the City has collected $22,320.00, with 71 permits issued. There were 4 code enforcement cases and 6 inspections for that same period.

BUSINESS LICENSE REPORT

For the 2021 business licenses, $72,858.00 has been invoiced and $65,857.00 has been collected thus far.

VEHICLE STICKER REPORT

For the period May 17, 2021 – December 8, 2021 approximately 7,100 stickers were sold and $162,525.75 was collected.

DRIVEWAY REQUEST – 12502 S. 70TH Avenue (Duffy)

Patrick Duffy was in attendance to explain his request for a variance for his driveway at 12502 S. 70th Avenue. Committee members discussed.

Alderman Lewandowski motioned to approve the driveway variance request, seconded by Alderman McGovern. On a voice note, the motion passed unanimously. AGENDA

PERMANENT SIGN REQUEST – 6401 W 127th Street (Pete’s)

Representatives from Pete’s were present to explain their request to modify the existing signs in order to add an LED screen to advertise products. The sign will only be illuminated during the hours of operation from 7 am to 10 pm. Committee members discussed.

Alderman Lewandowski motioned to approve the request as presented, seconded by Alderman McGovern. On a roll call vote, the motion passed as follows:

ABSENT: 1

NEW BUSINESS

Alderman Lewandowski discussed wanting to reaffirm or modify existing ordinances in the new year. Alderman McGovern and Alderman Basso agreed. The committee members discussed.

OLD BUSINESS

Alderman Lewandowski discussed the issue of video gaming and soliciting as much community input as possible to gauge any further discussion. Alderman McGovern stated encouraged ongoing open discussion to keep the community aware of issues brought to the committee. He stressed the importance of showing the number of people who did not vote on the referendum, and the number of businesses that have exited Palos Heights because of the issue of video gaming. Alderman Basso expressed his hope to have the ongoing issue of video gaming to come from an alternative source moving forward. The committee members discussed. Alderman Lewandowski proposed presenting the issue as an agenda item for January’s meeting.

There being no further business, Alderman Lewandowski made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Alderman McGovern. All in favor.
