City of Palos Heights Public Arts Commission met Dec. 13.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

I. Meeting of the Public Arts Commission call to order and was held via Facetime 7:12p.m. Present were Maria DeCaprio‐Sunta , Vanessa Sunta, Lynda Schiappa and Kathy Peters.

II. Approval of Minutes

a. Motion to approve October minutes by Lynda Sciappa, 2nd by Vanessa Sunta

III. Old Business

a. Lights in the Heights‐

∙ It was reported to the City that the lights were out. The City repaired the issue and corrected.

∙ Lynda Schiappa, also addressed, with Adam, that the lights should go off during the daylight hours.

∙ Steve quoted $95.00 for a spot light on the photo frame. However at the time of this meeting the light had not arrived.

b. Children’s Garden Sculpture Storybook Project Lake Katherine’s –

∙ The Little Turtle Gets Lost by Jean Gnap is the book selected by the PAC and formally approved by Gareth Blakesley of Lake Katherine’s

∙ (10) 2’ x 8’ will be purchased at a cost of $24.80 each. This purchase was approved by a motion from Maria DeCaprio‐Sunta and 2nd by Lynda Schiappa.

∙ A copy of the book was sent to the artist to create a storyboard for the installation of the project.

∙ The purchase of an 18” fiberglass turtle from Orlandi Garden @ $250.00 was approved with the motion by Maria DeCaprio‐Sunta and 2nd by Kathy Peters.

∙ Maria DeCaprio‐Sunta is researching a place in town for the artist to work during this project.

c. Relections/Butterfly Postcard

∙ 500 postcards will be designed exhibiting (4) projects/installations sponsored by the Public Arts Commission and used to promote interest in the Public Arts located throughout Palos Heights.

d. Approval of Bills –

∙ $321.84 to John J Sunta for reimbursement for boards and hours to create the Photo Frame for Lights in the Heignts. Approved with motion by Lynda Schiappa and 2nd by Kathy Peters.

∙ $225.00 to Lynda Schiappa for reimbursement for the decals on the Photo Frame. Approved by a motion from Vanessa Sunta and 2nd by Kathy Peters.

IV. New Business

a. Year‐End Report –

∙ To be provided by Maria DeCaprio‐Sunta

b. Slam Dunk Vandalism –

∙ Lynda Schiappa spoke to Joe Smith from the rec center whom agreed to pay for the full cost of the sculpture of $800.00 ‐ $900.00.

c. Photo Contest –

∙ Vanessa will create a “Poll” on Facebook and Instagram for residents to post photos taken at Lights in the Heights through the season. People will vote as which photo is the best and PAC will determine the winner. A prize of $50.00 gift certificate from a local business will be awarded. The winner will be announced in January 2022.

V. Public Comment

a. Debbie Albrecht suggested the photo contest on Social media.

VI. Request to adjourn meeting by Lynda Schiappa, so moved by Kathy Peters, and seconded by Maria DeCaprio‐ Sunta. All in favor.

Meeting adjourned at 8:28pm.
