Postgrad forward Sharnita Breeze and first-year guard Cashay Dixon of the Governors State women's basketball team have received all-conference honorable mention honors from the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Breeze earns All-CCAC honors for the second season, having been chosen to the first team last season. Dixon becomes the first freshman in team history to garner all-conference accolades.
Breeze led the Jaguars in points (354), rebounds (208), field goals (117) and free throws made (103) while playing a team-high 1,027 minutes over 29 games. She became the second player in school history to reach 1,000 career points and was named to the Siena Heights Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team. She led the team in scoring on eight occasions and was the leading rebounder in 16 contests. A co-captain, Breeze closed her three-year career ranking second in points (1,050) and third in rebounds (446).
Dixon joined the team at mid-season and posted a team-best 15.9 scoring average over 14 games. She averaged 16.7 points in conference action and would have ranked third in CCAC scoring but fell one game shy of the 60 percent participation requirement. She posted the highest-scoring effort of the season for GSU, netting 30 points in a road win at Calumet St. Joseph. Dixon scored 20-or-more points five times and was the team's high scorer in nine games.
"Breezy and Cashay played large roles with our team this year, especially on the offensive side of the ball," said GSU Head Coach Tonishea Mack. "They provided leadership for us and established themselves as top players in our conference."
GSU concluded its season on February 19, finishing 10-19 overall and 9-13 in the CCAC.
