City of Oak Forest Veterans Commission met Jan. 20.

3. Approval of Minutes
∙ Approval of the November December minutes will be done at February meeting.
o All members present approved, no nays.
4. Liaison to the City Report Paul Selman:
∙ Nothing to report at this time.
5. OLD BUSINESS:
∙ Motion by Dennis Mitzner and 2nd by John Perales to start the Banners program honoring our Veterans, Paul requested a sample banner from Crossmart in Tinley Park. Hangers are $26 if 100 per set. Our total cost is $76 do we charge $75 or $100 per banner. We need to talk with City Manager and PW about putting these on poles.
∙ Flag receptacle is needing cleaning out and Don has friend to burn flags. Flag repository – do we have enough flags annually to do a ceremony. We are only depositing City flags in the repository.
∙ Oak Forest Christmas parade Saturday December 4 went well Don Snedden drove his truck with flags representing Oak Forest Veterans Commission and VFW.
∙ FLEADH 5k run and parade is Saturday March 5. 5k runs through neighborhood west of Cicero start/finish at 153rd street by bowling alley parade is on Central. Paul reserved a table for Veterans commission.
∙ Talked with Ceska about painting base of rocket he said it is to cold now.
6. NEW BUSINESS:
∙ Trivia question: What organization was founded February 4th 1941? USO United Services Organization.
∙ Once around the Table;
o Ralph – Veterans Military ball February 19.
▪ You can also get free Covid test kits for home use.
o John – Linked-In (free for veterans for year) prime has capability of email, plus other extra features.
o Dave – Home Depot gives veterans a 10% discount on purchases. You can now sign up online and get your discount for online purchases. Still getting bugs out. You can only get $400 in discounts per year.
o Don – Donated 2 flag holders for use when we march in parades.
o Joe – Thanks for adjusting meeting time for my schedule.
