Trinity Christian College baseball (11-19, 7-10 CCAC) finished up their series with Indiana University South Bend (11-23, 5-13 CCAC) on Tuesday afternoon. The Trolls struggled defensively, and South Bend took home an 18-8 win.
Despite the game being played in South Bend, Trinity was the home team for the single nine-inning game. It only went seven-innings though because Trinity was 10-run ruled.
The Trolls trailed 2-0 after two innings. In the third, a seven-run frame was ignited by South Bend's Brett Sikorski. His two-run homer started the scoring and made it 4-0. A Trinity error extended the inning and helped South Bend score five more runs in the frame.
The Titans took advantage of four Trolls errors for the game.
South Bend struck seven more times in the fourth inning. Sikorski doubled to drive in another run during the onslaught. He ended the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Trinity didn't go quietly though. They scored eight times in the seventh inning. Freshman Preston Moore had a double to start the scoring. Sophomore Jacob Hutcherson drove a run in on an RBI single. Junior Hunter Slaats was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 18-3.
Trinity scored another run on a hit batsman when junior Angel Toscana was hit-by-a-pitch. Trinity trailed 18-4.
Junior Brock Bolser hit a three-run homer and made it 18-8, but those were the last runs of the game.
NOTES & NUMBERS:
- The home run for Bolser was his second of the season.
- South Bend featured five different pitchers. The first three, Kage Haeck, Robbie Berger and Max Govert did not allow a run.
