The Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) recognized 29 Cyclone students as All-Academic Athletes of the Year while 21 freshmen were named All-Conference Freshmen Academic Athletes of the Year.
To earn the ISCC distinction, students must have earned a 3.0 GPA or higher after completing at least 48 credit hours while participating in one of the college's 12 sports. Cyclone recipients are: baseball players Anthony Cappelletti, Thomas Carlson, John Gonsalves, Ryan Grand and William Miller; basketball players Reagan Cameron, Ethan Campagna, Kirsten Kamholz, Maggie Manthey, Taanisa Muhammad, Bashirah Muhammad and Katchie Savic; golfer Jack McDonald; soccer players Alan Arriaga, Raneen Betouni, Alyssa Froylan, Sarah Hughes, Declan Kelly, Nikodem Kurzeja, Natalie Orozco and Fernando Ramos; softball players Kara Riordan and Ashley Roberts; tennis players Ali Amer, Matt Bednar, James Coan and Lucas Skowyra; and volleyball players Nicole Ramirez and Julia Stefanon.
Amer, Hughes and McDonald also were awarded the Dick Durrant Sophomore Academic Athlete of the Year Award for earning a 4.0 GPA in the ISCC after completing four semesters at the college. This is the first time Moraine Valley has had three student-athletes earn the honor.
The All-Conference Freshmen Academic Athletes completed at least 24 credit hours with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Recipients are: baseball player Brian Funk; basketball players Mary Chronopoulou and Larissa Milenkovski; runners Brandon Armendarez, Scott Beveridge, Nicholas Cunico, Ryan O'Connor and Natalia Wrobel; soccer players Emma Ahern, Komi Bakou, Patrick Canny, Aoife Finn, Tristan Kelly, Giorgos Vallianatos and Carlos Villanueva; softball players Arianna Andersen, Emily Madrigal and Emily Manso; tennis players Aidan Lysouvakan and Hannah Markiewicz; and volleyball player Erin Moran.
"Our student-athletes have faced so much this past year, but their hard work paid off, and it shows on the field and in the classroom. I'm very happy to see their successes, especially having three Dick Durrant Award winners," said Bill Finn, Athletics director. "I'm also grateful for our Athletics staff, who work tirelessly with our athletes on a daily basis to help create this kind of success year-after-year."
