City of Palos Heights License, Permits & Franchise Committee met May 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

CALL TO ORDER 

Chairman Lewandowski called the License, Permits, and Franchises Committee meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. In attendance were Alderman McGovern, Alderman Basso, Alderman McGrogan, Building Commissioner Frank Giordano, and recording secretary Mary Jo Brooks.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES 

Alderman Lewandowski made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 8, 2022 meeting, seconded by Alderman Basso. On a voice note, the motion passed unanimously.

PERMIT & CODE ENFORCEMENT REPORT 

Chairman Lewandowski referred to the permit report in the agenda packet. There were 93 permits issued from April 5, 2022 to May 3, 2022 totaling $21,813.00. For the permit period from January 1, 2022 to May 3, 2022, the city has collected $65,504.98 with 225 permits issued. From January 1, 2022 to May 3, 2022, the city has collected $150.00 in re-inspection fees. There were 18 code enforcement cases and 20 code enforcement inspections from April 5, 2022 to May 3, 2022. From January 1, 2022 to May 3, 2022, there have been 45 code enforcement cases and 36 inspections.

BUSINESS LICENSE REPORT 

For the 2022 business licenses, $81,670.00 was invoiced of which $74,633.25 has been paid. The amount owed is $7,036.75.

VEHICLE STICKER REPORT 

For the period from May 17, 2021 to May 5, 2022 approximately 7,245 stickers were sold and $165,730.25 was collected.

VIDEO GAMING 

The issue of video gaming was presented for discussion.

George Zorbas Owner of X's & O's stated video gambling would allow restaurants in Palos Heights to compete with other restaurants around us. He feels that Palos Heights is preventing business owners from potential revenue. Resident Terry Moeller stated that more residents are against gambling and it is a disservice to voters to discuss gambling without a referendum should not override the voters. The discussion ensued. Alderman Lewandowski expressed " The committee has no will to move the issue of video gaming forward."
