State Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) gives a positive reaction to the "Cops on a Rooftop" event in Orland Park.

He lauded the police force anew for a great job battling crime.

"Look out for "Cops on a Rooftop" across the area on August 19th," Bailey said. "Law Enforcement in Illinois are once again putting on this great fundraiser to support the incredible Illinois Special Olympics programs. I am proud of the dedication of our law enforcement to not only guarantee public safety, but community and charitable events as well."

The “Cops on a Rooftop” event is a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Illinois, and police will be stationed on the rooftops of Dunkin Donuts locations in Orland Park at 14461 LaGrange Rd., 11309 143rd St., and 15615 Harlem Ave. Customers who visit the locations during the event will receive a free donut coupon. Donors who contribute more than $10 will receive a free coffee as well as a promotional mug promoting the Law Enforcement Torch Run. The event will be held on August 19. Starting at 5 a.m. to 12 p.m, according to Patch.

Bailey, who is challenging Gov. J.B. Pritzker for the gubernatorial seat, showed his support for the law enforcement community as the debate over the SAFE-T Act, which takes effect on January 1, 2023, heats up. Bailey and other Republicans like Illinois GOP Chairman Don Tracy have opposed the SAFE-T Act. Tracy noted that "Pritzker has the abnormal and insane governing philosophy that prioritizes the thoughts and feelings of violent criminals above law enforcement and public safety. Four more years of J.B. Pritzker is dangerous for Illinois.”

The Special Olympics of Illinois hosts winter, summer, and state tournaments in a variety of sports such as basketball, tennis, golf, softball, field hockey, and bowling.

“Special Olympics Illinois values the contributions it receives from all of its donors and is committed to being good stewards of the dollars it raises to support individuals with intellectual disabilities through sports, health and Leadership programming”, the group says on its website.
