City of Hometown City Council met June 14.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Call to The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Hometown was called to order by Order: Mayor Casey at 7:00 P.M.

Pledge of The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Alderman Banasiak.

Allegiance:

Roll Call: Roll call indicated that the following were present: Aldermen Kurysz, Banasiak, Smith, Zak, Walsh, Beyer and Grochowski.

Absent: Aldermen Reynolds, Finnegan and Barnhouse.

Also present: Michael Cainkar, City Attorney, Louis Dominguez, Chief of Police, Mark Trlak, Director of Public Works, Bonne Gesiakowski, and James Forbes, Building Commissioner.

Press: Kelly White, Hometown Hi-Lites.

Journal May 24, 2022: Moved by Alderman Kurysz, seconded by Alderman Zak to approve as published the Journal of May 24, 2022 Regular City Council Meeting.

REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS

Office of the Mayor:

Mayor Casey reported the recreation cannabis will be moving forward very soon. Go Puff is delayed due to the food/stock shortage, they are hoping to open by year end. Pizza Plus is going well. The Car Wash is waiting for the DOT permit, the building is being built out of state.

Office of the City Clerk:

City Clerk Hacker notified the City Council the Clerk’s office received from the Department of Revenue that the Sales Tax collected in the month of April 2022 was in the amount of $22,096.88 the amount collected in the month of April 2021 was in the amount of $16,593.40.

City Clerk Hacker notified the City Council the Clerk’s office received from the Department of Transportation that the MFT collected in the month of April 2022 was in the amount of $14,593.62, the amount collected in the month of April 2021 was in the amount of $14,326.89.

Clerk Hacker stated we received a request from District 123 Educational Foundation for a Foursome And Hole Sponsorship for the annual Golf Outing.

Moved by Alderman Grochowski, seconded by Alderman Beyer to approve a Foursome and Hole Sponsor for the District 123 Educational Foundation Golf Outing in the amount of $600.00.

Clerk Hacker stated that the sticker sales are going well, and she encouraged everyone to avoid the last day of sales due to crowds.

Mayor Casey stated we now have a Code Enforcement Director, and he will have a list and be giving tickets for no vehicle stickers or animal tags.

Office of the Treasurer:

Treasurer Roti, absent.

City Attorney: Michael Cainkar, City Attorney, had no report.

Police: Louis Dominguez, Chief of Police, reported he has finished the memorial services for Lt. Kouski, he participated in the County, State and Washington DC services. There are two more upcoming memorials, July17th and August 7.

Public Works: Mark Trlak, Director, reported that branch pick-up is going well. They are doing routine jobs and will be filling potholes soon. The Street Sweeper came through last night.

REPORTS FROM CITY APPOINTED OFFICIAL

Building: James Forbes, Building Commissioner had no report.

Public Health and Safety: Bonnie Gesiakowski reminded residents to call City Hall if they see issues in a rear yard or behind garages. During Clean up weekend the dumpsters were full, so some residents did clean up.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Accounts Payable Payroll April 12, 2022: Moved by Alderman Beyer, seconded by Alderman Banasiak to approve for payment the accounts payable vouchers in the amount of $80,590.82 and payroll vouchers in the amount of $86,443.72 for a total expenditure of $167,034.54.

Alderman Beyer acknowledged receipt of the City Treasurer’s Report and the Clerk Collector’s Report.

STREETS, SIDEWALKS AND MUNICIPAL BUILDING COMMITTEE

Alderman Glen Zak, Chairman moved, seconded by Alderman Smith to award the 88th Street resurfacing project to Lindahl Brothers, Inc. in the amount of $265,525.45 on the recommendation of Hancock Engineering.

Mayor Casey stated there were only two bids, the other bid was over $360,000.00. This award is for Cicero to the island and from the island to Kostner is out for bid now. We are hoping to have the project done all at once.

WATER AND SEWER COMMITTEE

Alderman Walsh, Chairman stated there is no problem with the sewers and the water is flowing.

PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE

Alderman Smith, Chairman had no report. Mayor Casey stated he will be addressing the Splash Pad crowding tomorrow.

BUILDING COMMITTEE

Alderman Barnhouse, Chairman absent. Alderman Walsh gave the building report.

LICENSE COMMITTEE: Alderman Donna Grochowski, Chairman reminded residents that the Vehicle Stickers and animal tags will be on sale May 2-June 30th.

CODE AND ORDINANCE COMMITTEE: Alderman Bob Reynolds, Chairman was absent.

INSURANCE COMMITTEE: Alderman Rick Banasiak, Chairman had no report.

PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE: Alderman Luci Kurysz, Chairman stated she has been to Pizza Plus and it is very nice and encourages everyone to support them.

POLICE COMMITTEE: Alderman Finnegan, Chairman was absent. Alderman Banasiak gave the activity for May 2022.

REPORTS FROM SPECIAL COMMITTEES

Library: Alderman Grochowski reported they did not have a quorum, so the meeting was cancelled, they are meeting right now.

Legislation: Alderman Beyer had no report.

Fire Department: Mayor Casey that they are re-structuring, more man power, and they increased the pay. This is all contributed to Chief Duffy and Trustee Scott who started his Fire Service career in Hometown and is back now.

Personnel Review: Mayor Kevin Casey, Chairman, had no report. Chief Dominguez had no report.

PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS RESOLUTIONS, ORDERS AND ORDINANCES BY ALDERMEN.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Alderman Kurysz thanked everyone that attended the Veteran Memorial Day Ceremony.

HEALTH, WELFARE & COMMUNITY AWARENESS: Alderman Grochowski reported on many upcoming events.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Mayor Casey stated that this may have been the last clean-up weekend, the dumpsters were overflowing, there were TV’s all around them and tires. There are rumors out there that there is no church deal, This is not true; they are in the negotiating stage. Mayor Casey stated that anyone with questions regarding Home Rule can call him anytime, he will come to their house if they want him to explain it. You must wonder why the Real Estate Association is spending 10-15 k on mailings when they are in Tinley Park, saying debt, taxes and power are the reasons we want Home Rule. Crime Free and TIF are important to the City of Hometown, please push the vote.

At the next meeting we will have a representative from smart water meters , we are using Cares Act funds for these cellular meters. June 22 is the Hometown Co-op meeting; everyone has an invitation.

When you leave, please notice the white bus next to the Pace bus, that is our new bus, we are going to have it decaled and start using it.

NEW BUSINESS: Clerk Hacker stated we received a thank you from the Bukowski Family for the flowers we sent at the time of Rich’s passing.

CITIZEN’S HEARING: NONE

ADJOURNMENT: Motion made by Alderman Beyer, seconded by Alderman Smith to adjourn the regular meeting of the Hometown City Council.
