Pekau for Congress has issued the following press release:
Sept. 2, 2022 - In an address to the nation yesterday evening, Joe Biden told the American people that “Democracy is under assault” at the hands of Republicans.
Keith Pekau, candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 6th District, issued the following statement in response:
“Last night, Joe Biden said, ‘I have been able to work with those mainstream Republicans’ while calling other Republicans a threat to Democracy. To be clear the “Don’t Say Inflation Act” was passed without a single Republican vote. Do we call that working together? The immoral act of making taxpayers pay the debt of others had no Republican votes. In fact, it did not have enough Democratic votes to pass legislatively. For that reason, President Biden ignored our constitution and ruled by fiat. He followed this by dividing Americans in a public address.
“The fact is when Joe Biden was inaugurated as president, he inherited a strong military, a secure southern border, and a strong economy.
“In the course of just 20 months of Joe Biden’s term, the United States of America has endured a botched retreat from Afghanistan resulting in the deaths of 13 American service men and women, along with the surrender of billions of dollars of military equipment to the Taliban, a collapse of peaceful relations around the globe, massive illegal immigration at the southern border skyrocketing to never-before-seen numbers, and a crippled economy with supply chain shortages in nearly every industry. Inflation grew to 9.1%. Gas prices reached $6 in Cook County. Crime continues to plague cities across America. Joe Biden’s policies have caused this disaster.
“For the President to push the national conversation to division while implementing failed policies as Congress shirks its duty to provide the appropriate checks and balances is unacceptable. The problems we are facing are deeper than that. They deserve public debate and solutions passed by our Congress as required by the Constitution. As a mayor, I’ve worked with people of all political stripes and followed the legislative process to get results for the people I serve. Sean Casten and Joe Biden have failed and everyone is feeling the pain. In November, I’m confident Americans will see through the political attacks and choose a new path.”
