Illinois 6th Congressional District candidate and Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau is calling out Illinois Democrats over the impending flood of criminals to be released from the state’s jails once the SAFE-T Act goes into effect.

“Someone could decide to live in your shed and all law enforcement could do is give them a ticket. The SAFE-T Act is a massive threat to residents of Orland Park, Cook County and Illinois. The legislature passed it, Pritzker signed it and Casten has been silent. Vote accordingly,” Pekau said on Twitter.

The SAFE-T Act will result in the release of those charged with crimes including robbery, kidnapping, arson, second-degree murder, intimidation, aggravated battery, aggravated DUI, aggravated flight, drug-related homicide and threatening a public official.

“Gov. Pritzker has the abnormal and insane governing philosophy that prioritizes the thoughts and feelings of violent criminals above law enforcement and public safety. Four more years of J.B. Pritzker is dangerous for Illinois,” Illinois GOP Chairman Don Tracy said recently, Will County Gazette reported.

Pekau oversaw efforts of the Orland Park Police Department to engage in proactive policing resulting in a decrease in crime in the south suburban community while the City of Chicago has experienced a historic increase, according to South Cook News.

Some state’s attorneys have been warning their community that there are hundreds of criminals accused of serious felonies, sometimes of an extremely violent nature.

Jim Glasgow, the state's attorney for Will County, has argued in favor of repealing the SAFE-T Act.

"It will destroy the state of Illinois," Glasgow said. "I have 640 people in the Will County Jail. All their bonds will be extinguished on Jan. 1, and 60 are charged with murder.”

Glasgow has noted before that a man he is prosecuting plotted to have him killed from behind bars, noting he would do it himself if he were free. That man would have been free had the SAFE-T Act already been in effect, The Center Square reported.

“Last I checked they all supported Kim Fox in her reelection,” Pekau said of his Nov. 8 opponent incumbent Democrat U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL), South Cook News reported. “Casten supports Kim Foxx. They support the defund the police, no cash bail movement that is putting us all at risk. It's clear it's not working.”
