DIRECTOR’S REPORT
Public Works Director Adam Jasinski presented the following reports/considerations: ∙ Motor Vehicle Update: There is only one chipper in service currently. The fuel injector failed on the second chipper, and the mechanics had to send it out to the supply company to replace it. The hydraulic lift on truck number 10, which is the main “slop” truck used to haul the rocks and debris from water main excavations. The mechanics are working on the police vehicles and landscaping equipment. The 2007 Ford Explorer sold for $2,950.00 on iBid.
∙ Request approval for Art Garden Improvements with CNC Landscapes in the amount of $5,975.00. This is to improve the landscaping by ripping out the old, dead rose bushes and planting new bushes and flowers to add some color. There are also some dying bushes around the fence by the Comed substation that CNC would remove and replace.
Alderman Begley motioned to approve the Art Garden improvements with CNC Landscapes in the amount of $5,975.00, seconded by Alderman Lewandowski. On a voice note, the motion passed unanimously.—AGENDA
∙ Parkway Maintenance: Due to the current quarry strikes causing a shortage in concrete and stone, Public Works will focus on landscaping in the City. Public Works replanted the dead trees on Oak Park Avenue, placed bags around them, and have been watering them more than once a week. They also replanted the trees that are the City’s responsibility on 123rd St, and Nicor will replace the rest of the trees that they removed. The hanging flower baskets are up on Harlem Avenue and are being watered daily. Crews are clearing the overgrown bushes along sidewalks on 127th St and 76th Ave, and clearing the site lines on all the road intersections. Public Works finished mulching last month, prepping the parks for the upcoming events, and sprayed the entire City for weeds. Alderman Begley expressed gratitude for the work done by the Public Works staff, and asked that Director Jasinski convey to his staff how great the City looks.
OLD BUSINESS
∙ City Hall Bike Rack: After this issue was brought to City Council, Alderman Basso requested that it be brought back to the Municipal Grounds and Property Committee. Director Jasinski provided a packet of possible options for a bike rack that meets the Park Design standards for the City. Alderman Begley informed the committee of the request from the members of the Recreation Advisory Board members and residents to reinstall a bike rack at City Hall. There was a bike rack previously installed at City Hall that was removed when landscaping was updated. Director Jasinski told the committee members that installing a new bike rack would be no problem, and is looking for suggestions from the committee members for possible locations at City Hall. Alderman Basso and Alderman Bylut both agreed that the options presented for bike racks that meet the Park Standards were more aesthetically pleasing. The committee members discussed possible locations for the bike rack placement and will bring suggestions to the next meeting. ∙ Alderman Basso commented on how terrific the birms and parkways on Oak Park Avenue look.
NEW BUSINESS
None.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Alderman Begley moved to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Lewandowski. All in favor. Meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
