At the Oct. 11 meeting of the School District 146 Board of Education, the board heard from Wendy Wolgan, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, who discussed report card and homework guidelines updates.

“We're also going to be working on generating what we call family learning target sheets, which are separate from the report card. But these are sheets that will help," Wolgan said. "They're very student friendly. They have 'I can' statements to help the learner and the family that's helping the learner kind of identify all the learning going on towards these priority standards and essential learning in the classroom. So we're very excited about that work."

Wolgan shared how the district has been working on revising the K-5 standards report card. She said the report card committee has chosen a new template for a condensed report card that focuses on more essential learning and priority standards, and puts less focus on subskills.

Wolgan also talked about the homework guidelines, which have been discussed with educators and families. The goal was to understand the role of homework in the district’s families. Wogan said she would like to send out a survey to all parents and students 3-8 in the district to help create more meaningful homework guidelines for the district.

Superintendent Jeff Stawick announced Central Middle School inducted 48 new members to the National Junior Honor Society, and five of them spoke at the ceremony as representatives of the student body.
