CROSS COUNTRY CLOSE OUT FALL SEASON AT CCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Governors State men and women's cross-country team competed in the CCAC Championship meet at the Channahon Community Center.

Men's Cross Country — Saint Francis finished in first place with 28 points with Olivet Nazarene (32) and Saint Xavier (111) rounding out the top three. The Jaguars (213) finished eighth.

Freshman Russell Ward registered GSU's fastest time with a 29:12.2 performance over eight kilometers. Finishing second on the team was Shane Watkins (31:28.0) followed by Dante Miller (31:31.2), Emmanuel Phelps (32:03.2), Christopher Montgomery (32:13.0), and Devontae Lopez (40:15.5).

ONU's Taylor Vallangeon won the individual race by 10 seconds, logging a time of 25:06.5.

Women's Cross Country — Saint Francis finished in first place with 20 points with Olivet Nazarene (44) and Judson (95) rounding out the top three. The Jaguars (232) finished seventh.

Senior Jackie Navarette registered the Jaguar's fastest time with a 23:37.9 performance over   five kilometers. Finishing second on the team was Alison Borschnack (23:53.5), followed by Diana Perez (24:15.8), Liz Rios (24:33.4), Bailey Honn (23:34.4), and Kayla Rodriguez (34:13.8).

Saint Francis's Ana Pineda won the individual race by 3.5 seconds, logging a time of 18:36.2.

"The men and women really ran tough today! It was very windy and rainy, but they stuck it out and were able to beat some teams", said Coach John Niendorf. "It is a nice steppingstone that we can build upon for next season.
