The Village of Tinley Park recently shone a spotlight on Classic Collectibles, a local toy and collectible business that offers a family-friendly and kid-centered shopping experience.

At the Nov. 1 board meeting, owner Chris Pluymert spoke to the board and said he allows children to be part of the experience, including negotiating over prices.

“My staff…they're told to take care of the kids,” Pluymert said. “(Children are) allowed to come in there. They can trade and barter with us, give us a hard time if they want. There's just not a lot of that left anymore, you know? So we focus on that.”

Classic Collectibles buys, sells and trades new and used toys including Barbies, GI Joes and Hot Wheels. While the first store opened more than five years ago, the Tinley Park location has only been open for a little over a year.

Pluymert had dreamed of owning a toy store since childhood and used to run a pretend toy store in his bedroom as a young boy.

The store is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with some upcoming extended holiday hours.

Pluymert invited members of the community to stop by the shop to check out the inventory which is replenished almost daily.
