∙ Approval of the August minutes by Jim Pioth 2nd by Tom O’Neill.
o All members present approved, no nays.
∙ We canceled the September meeting, because of conflicts on that day.
4. Liaison to the City Report Paul Selman:
∙ Nothing to report.
5. OLD BUSINESS:
∙ Flag receptacle now has plastic pallets for bottom to keep the flags dry. There are three inside the flag box, standing up, we will have to configure for the box.
∙ Don Snedden is coordinating a flag retirement at a friend’s house. Larry Nolan says he has enough flags for Elks club. We should care for disposal. Next time he will take flags.
∙ Oak Forest High School art students painted the base of Nike Hercules missile at Oak Forest Park District. The project was coordinated by Tom Ceska and with Dan Chambers, art teacher at Oak Forest High school.
∙ Are we changing the parade theme or a different venue and date? Suggested to change the theme to “Home Town Heroes”. Any more ideas?
∙ One of our members could use a little yard clean-up assistance. We will assist in cleaning things up for him.
6. NEW BUSINESS:
∙ November 11th Friday is Veterans Day what should we do?
∙ November 17 is our next meeting can we move up the time to 18:00.
∙ December 10th Sunday, drive by for a Veteran turning 90 years old at noon. ∙ What part of the Armed Forces had a birthday last week?

The deposed leader of Libya, Muammar Gaddafi, is captured by the National Transitional Council Forces. He was killed by the troops soon after.

A stampede during a UEFA Cup soccer (football) match between Dutch club Haarlem and the Moscovian football club, Spartak at the Lenin Stadium in Moscow left about 60 people dead.
∙ 1973 Sydney Opera House Opens its Doors
The iconic building, which was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, was designed by Danish architect Jørn Oberg Utzon. Construction on the performing arts center began in March 1959 and cost over $100 million.

∙ 1962 War Breaks Out Between India and China
The month-long border dispute began after the Chinese launched a two-pronged attack on the border between the two countries. During the duration of hostilities, China and India did not officially declare war on each other nor cut off any diplomatic ties. The conflict ended with China taking control of Aksai Chin and both countries accepting a de facto border along what is now known as Line of Control.
