City of Hometown City Council met Dec. 13 

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Call to Order: The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Hometown was called to order by Mayor Pro-tem Banasiak on Tuesday December 13, 2022 at 7:00 P.M.

Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Alderman Smith.

Mayor Pro-tem Banasiak asked for a moment of silence for Mayor Kevin Casey who passed away suddenly Friday evening.

Roll Call: Roll call indicated that the following were present: Aldermen Banasiak, ,Reynolds, Smith, Beyer, Walsh, Finnegan, Zak, Barnhouse and Grochowski.

Absent: Alderman Kurysz

Also present: Michael Cainkar, City Attorney, Louis Dominguez, Chief of Police, Mark Trlak, Public Works Director, Bonnie Gesiakowski and James Forbes, Building Commissioner.

Press: Jan Forney, Hometown Hi-Lites.

Journal November 22, 2022: Moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Zak to approve as published the Journal of November 22, 2022 Regular City Council Meeting.

Roll Call Indicated:

AYES: (7) Aldermen Grochowski, Barnhouse, Walsh, Smith, Reynolds Zak, and Banasiak. 

NAYS: (0)

ABSENT: (1) Alderman Kurysz.

ABSTENSION: (2) Aldermen Finnegan and Beyer.

MOTION DECLARED CARRIED

CITIZEN’S HEARING

Phil Mottl of 9048 Corcoran Road expressed his condolences to the City Council for the loss of Mayor Casey. Mr. Mottl talked about all the wonderful things Mayor Casey did for the City of Hometown and how hard he worked. Mr. Mottl urged the new administration to carry on the legacy of Mayor Casey in regards to Home Rule and other issues.

REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS

Office of the Mayor:

Mayor Pre-tem Banasiak stated he had nothing to report.

Office of the City Clerk:

Clerk Hacker stated we are doing an abbreviated meeting tonight so she would not be reading her report.

The Clerk’s office received from the Department of Revenue that the Sales Tax collected in the month of October 2022 was in the amount of $24,128.22 the amount collected in the month of October 2021 was in the amount of $23,632.55.

The City Council the Clerk’s office received from the Department of Transportation that the MFT collected in the month of October 2022 was in the amount of $14,742.57, the amount collected in the month of October 2021 was in the amount of $13,850.33.

The City of Hometown received a request from Pathlights for a Christmas Donation to support their efforts in helping our seniors.

Moved by Alderman Finnegan, seconded by Alderman Walsh to approve a $250.00 donation to Pathlights (formerly PLOWS) as a Holiday donation to support their efforts in supporting our seniors.

Accounts Payable Payroll December 13, 2022: Moved by Alderman Beyer, seconded by Alderman Reynolds to approve for payment the accounts payable vouchers in the amount of $94,317.48 and payroll vouchers in the amount of $91,594.81 for a total expenditure of $185,912.29.

PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE

Alderman Smith, Chairman had no report.

BUILDING COMMITTEE

Alderman Barnhouse, Chairman gave the November Building Report.

LICENSE COMMITTEE: Alderman Donna Grochowski, Chairman had no report.

CODE AND ORDINANCE COMMITTEE: Alderman Bob Reynolds, Chairman had no report. 

INSURANCE COMMITTEE: Alderman Rick Banasiak, Chairman had no report.

PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE: Alderman Luci Kurysz, Chairman was absent.

POLICE COMMITTEE: Alderman Finnegan, Chairman gave the activity for October 2022. State Tickets:100 P Tickets:278 C Tickets: 3 Warnings:115 (65 HT Residents)

205 Incidents 30 Arrests Misdemeanor Arrests: 17.

REPORTS FROM SPECIAL COMMITTEES

Library: Alderman Grochowski reported two new employees were hired, the grant they received for Seniors was $7,500.00 and the Per Capita Grant is due in January. The next meeting is January 3, 2023.

Legislation: Alderman Beyer had no report.

Fire Department: Mayor Pro-tem Banasiak reported they are doing good.

Personnel Review: Mayor Pro-tem Banasiak, Chairman, had no report. Chief Dominguez had no report. 

PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS RESOLUTIONS, ORDERS AND ORDINANCES BY ALDERMEN.

MOVED BY ALDERMAN SMITH, SECONDED BY ALDERMAN ZAK TO APPROVE ORDINANCE NO. 10-2022, AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE LEVYING, ASSESSMENT AND COLLECTION OF TAXES FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING APRIL 30, 2023 FOR THE CITY OF HOMETOWN

NEW BUSINESS: Alderman Beyer moved, seconded by Alderman Walsh to suspend the regular meeting to move into close session to discuss the appointment of an Acting Mayor to fulfill the unexpired term of Mayor Casey at 7:15 p.m.
