International Women’s Day – A Feminist Look at Uprisings in the Middle EastWednesday, March 8 | 11 a.m. | Building L, Library Lounge and LivestreamingDr. Nadine Naber, associate professor in the Gender and Women’s Studies Program at University of Illinois at Chicago, will illustrate how forms of state violence that currently shape the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region (such as authoritarianism, sectarianism and U.S.-led imperial wars) are feminist concerns and how feminist movements have helped expand the possibility of building alternative futures. Drawing on examples from Egypt, Iran, Lebanon and Palestine, she will focus on activist frameworks such as radical mothering, activism and coalitional consciousness.

Difficult Conversation: The Impact of Overturning Roe v. WadeTuesday, March 21 | 11 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. | Building L, Library Lounge and LivestreamingJoin in a healthy and safe discussion on the Roe v. Wade decision and how it has impacted women. We will watch a few segments from a past faculty panel and then discuss key components of this decision.

A Female Ref Scores One for WomenWednesday, March 29 | 11 a.m. | Building U, Room U111 | LivestreamingHanah Shehaiber is one of only 11 female soccer referees for the Illinois High School Association and was the only one when she started 22 years ago. Hear how she has broken the glass ceiling in this male dominated role and her experiences as a female referee.

Take Back the Night Rally and WalkWednesday, April 5 | 6 p.m. | Moraine Room 2/GatewayLet’s Shatter the Silence on sexual assault. All are welcome to participate in this educational event that will include a resource fair with local organizations, speakers and a walk around campus.
