The village board of Tinley Park recently recognized two local youths for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, he seventh and highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America organization.

During the May 2 Tinley Park village board meeting, officials honored Nicholas Cunico and Noah Moreno for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Trustee William Brady recommended a motion to recognize the two youths which was seconded.

Brady commended each Cunico and Moreno for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout which requires a demonstration of leadership, service, and perfected skills in more than 21 merit badges. This rank is only achieved by the top 5% of all scouts in the Boy Scouts of America's 110-year history. Brady shared his own experience with the scouts.

“I like to add that as a father of an Eagle Scout, I know what the parents went through. I always appreciate what parents go through because they wouldn't have made it if it wasn't for the parents,” Brady said at the meeting. “Trust me, I've been a scout leader for over 20 years from our Boy Scout Troop 911 that is being sponsored by the Tinley Park Police Department. Congratulations, guys. It's such a great honor. For those who don't know, there are 365 conditions that they have to meet requirements in order to become an eagle. So it's not an easy job.”

After taking photos with the mayor and board, the Cunico and Moreno were given certificates recognizing their achievement. While the minimum amount of badges needed for the rank is 21, the board was amazed to hear that the two boys had earned 59 (Cunico) and 65 (Moreno) badges.

The board also adopted three resolutions setting consecutive weeks to honor various public servants. April 30 to May 6 was named Village Clerk’s week, May 7 to May 13 was named as Public Service Recognition Week to honor all public employees in Tinley Park, Illinois, and the country, and May 21 to May 27 was named National Public Works week to honor all their department personnel who help create such a high quality of life for Tinley Park residents.
