According to a press release, Gov. J.B. Pritzker has nominated prominent IT expert Sanjay Gupta for the position of Secretary of the Illinois Department of Innovation and Technology, pending Senate confirmation.
“Sanjay Gupta brings invaluable expertise in public and private sector information technology to DoIT,” said Pritzker. “His previous work and vision for enterprise architecture, digital transformation, and user experience make him a vital addition to the agency. I am confident that this team will lead the nation in cybersecurity, service delivery, and user experience.”
According to the press release, Gupta's contributions include leading the development of federal government pandemic aid portals, which played a role in supporting small businesses during the height of the crisis. The press release said his involvement on the board of the federal Technology Modernization Fund showcases his commitment to driving technological advancements and modernization initiatives at a national level.
Gupta holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Punjab Engineering College, a Master of Science degree from Wayne State University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. Gupta has nearly two decades of experience in management, consulting, and analysis within technology operations worldwide. He has worked extensively with various companies based in Illinois.
The same press release also announced Pritzker has elevated Brandon Ragle from his previous role as acting secretary to the newly created position of deputy secretary. Ragle has more than three decades of experience working for the state. The press release said his expertise was instrumental in facilitating the upgrade of cybersecurity measures and strengthening the state's connected infrastructure.
"Brandon is an essential asset to modernizing our technology for the people of Illinois, and he is part of a strong leadership team that is widely acknowledged nationally as a model,” Pritzker said. “He stepped up at a critical time for the agency, and I want to recognize his contributions with this important new role.”
