City of Oak Forest Veterans Commission met May 18

3. Approval of Minutes
- Approval of the April minutes by Jim Pioth 2 nd by Dennis Mitzner.
- All present approved, no nays.
- Announced at City Council meeting that flags and banners have been put up.
- Emptying of the Flag receptacle is Saturday June 3 at 10 AM.
- Planning for FOURTH OF July 2023 concert at Park District Pavilion behind main Park District building.
- We will incorporate Operation Gratitude into Independence Day event July 4 th.
- Would like some military vehicles around the area that night. Paul will contact his trucking company and Joe will contact Mike Salamowicz (PW Director) and John Robinson (Asst. PW Director) they both have military vehicles.
- Joe will contact Nick’s Hot dog and Ken Keeler (Kenootz) to provide food service/truck.
- We should have at least 4 Port-a-potties, 1 handicapped accessible and 3 others.
- Parking would be in front of Park District on Long Ave. or soccer practice fields. Will request sign from PW.
- One of our members could use a little yard clean-up assistance. Joe will talk with him about setting a date.
- Veterans Birthday yard signs are in city hall. I have posted the first birthday sign on Deerpath Rd. Next ones are 5/4 & 5/25.
- Are there any restrictions for putting names on picture when they are transitioned to the TV? No restrictions at all.
- Memorial Day Flag placing around the city needs people to place flags weekend of May 20. Meet at City Hall at 9:00 AM Saturday May 20.
- We were asked to post colors at the Senior Luncheon on May 25 th at 11:00 AM. Class “A” uniform (gold ascots and cords) will meet at Park Place (OF Park District) 10:30.
- Memorial Day Ceremony by the VFW post is Monday May 29 at 11:00 AM
Each member shares any information for Veterans.
- Dave - Will the debt ceiling be of concern to Veterans? We do not think it should but you never know. Need to contact VA service center or VA benefits.
