Monica Gordon finally resigned as trustee of the Prairie State Community College board in a letter sent to board members yesterday.
Her name has been removed from the college’s website listing members of the board of trustees.
We published an article detailing her incompatible offices of community college trustee and Cook County board member a few months ago after we were tipped about her holding both offices (read it here) unlawfully.
She should have stepped down or resigned the day prior to assuming the office of county commissioner.
Gordon was first elected as community college trustee, and then ran for and was elected as a Cook County Commissioner, which created the conflict in her holding of both offices. By accepting the office of county commissioner, she automatically forfeited her office of community college trustee, according to two separate appellate court cases dealing with this exact subject.
“as a matter of law the acceptance of a second, incompatible office by the incumbent of another office constitutes an ipso facto resignation of the first office.”
We understand there may have been some communications between the Attorney General’s office and the college attorney but cannot confirm it as of this publication. We have requested information from the AGs office related to this.
